unless you have a certain preference I think the young gun start is as basic as it get.
you will have to scan a station data leak to get the story rolling, Alternatively you could select any other start.
currently the Terran Cadet seem to be the easiest most filled with freebies story line that I could follow. you can access this story from any other game start.
If i were you i'd look up some tutorial videos on Youtube for the best way you'll get a better idea on where or how to start.
Hope this helps
You seem really worried that you'll do it wrong, though. Don't be. Your choice of start makes a difference, but not a huge one. The developers didn't put out any traps to punish the unwary! As you seem to be looking to do some mining to make money instead of shooting things for cash, I would recommend one of the starts that gives you a scout.
As for the best place to mine, that really depends on many, many things. It's really best if you explore your own universe and decide for yourself what place will work best for you.
I'm still working on it, but I did make a guide to cover the starts.

The Terran Cadet start is often recommended for new players; Terrans have good ships, and Terran space is relatively safe and very good for making money.
If you don't like Terran Cadet, I strongly recommend you check the Gamestart Type (under the video clip on the New Game screen) and select one that described as Guided. Guided gamestarts provide just a bit of structure and training as you begin the game, and will ease you into the water rather than just tossing you into the deep end of the pool.
I can't really give an easy answer on "best ore and area for mining," because every game of X4 is different. But again, Terran and Segaris space are good places to get started.
The learning curve is scary, but X4 has a great community that will be happy to help! You may also want to join the official Egosoft forums[forum.egosoft.com] or the X4 subreddit.
I would advice simply to explore the map, discover the factions and do some missions in the early game, to get the feel of the game and the controls.
Then you will have some plots that will start automatically, you have the Hatvikla free league, which kinda serves as a tutorial and gives you a free ship.
There is the Tides of avarice plot, with the split dude, that serves as a tutorial for pirating if that is your thing.
They are some abandonned ships, you can recover and sell or keep.
Data vaults are worth to explroe in early game, they get you a few hundred thouand of credits and some insight on the story.
explore first, find where to mine with good yields (ressource probs) and where to sell what you mine. (deploy sats)
Then once you explored and get some cash you can do mining and selling stuff.
here this video is very important if you want to set up profitable mining operations

Remember, don't rush, this game can sometimes take a lot of time to get where you want, the important is not the destination but the journey.
Have fun and come ask questions if you need help with anything.
About the plot, there is a web link where I can see how I can start the plot story of all race/faction?
Y'know what I did?
I just started and figured it out as I went along. then later checked a few things as I became more interested. The Young pilot one I chose.
Best way to start. You don't know what's out there- FUN.
I'm still puttering about in one ship as a jobbing Merc with one Freighter, but I've learned a LOT about the early game!
THx!!
The in-game encyclopedia explains almost everything you need to know. Only real tricky part going in utterly blind would be Terran/Argon/Xenon relations since it's relatively intertwine.
Basically long ago (but our future) Earth discovers FTL travel between two gates is possible. They build three, keeping one in Earth's orbit, use one to colonize Mars and send the other to Alpha Centauri the slow way. Once its supposed to have arrived, Earth tries reconnecting the two gates (lost connection near end) but, to their surprise, they don't connect to the Alpha Centauri gate but to an existing and seemingly uninhibited network of gates. Humans decide to send some AI terraforming robots through. Surprisingly, they don't rebel, unsurprisingly they still turn against humans because of a virus. A force led by Nathan R. Gunn lures them through the gate before they can get to Earth, and the gate is blown up behind him, saving Earth. Those descended from him and his crew become the Argon (R. Gunn) while the terraformers become known the Xenon.
Eventually due to earlier games, Sol and Argon become linked again but Sol decides to sakoku and blockade their end of the gate. This is further worsened by a pair of Argon terrorists bombing a station around Earth starts a hot war. Then the gates shut down. By the time they come back up, Earth's government is unfriendly to everyone else but is now aggressive in its attacks against Xenon.
