What's next?
First off, let me state that this game is absolutely extraordinary, and the depth and systems at play should be replicated and expanded upon by other game development teams for future games. I am a mere noob in X4 compared to so many others.

Truthfully though, I want to know if there are any plans for an X5 game soon? Not rumors, but confirmation and dates.

If there is nothing upcoming in the next year or so, are there any games similar to this with more updated graphics and more expensive AI? That's a tall order already, I know.

If nothing else, I hope Starfield comes close to what X4 has created. And there better be some good VR support on X5 or Starfield.

Please let me know what you know. Until then, I will continue on my journey as a space cowboy. Thanks.

Don't think there are. The X universe is quite unique and keeps on getting better.

No AI to build an empire in Eve, right? I tried doing a search regarding EVE online and npc's to command, but I could only find a flood of message board requests for the game to add AI NPC's to hire. These were really old posts, from back in the early days of EVE I imagine. But still, the more recent messages joked and said, build an army of friends to do your bidding.

I can totally see Eve as being a go-to for me, but I crave more games with NPC's that can pilot me around or do my bidding. As of yet, I can only think of Mount and Blade and X4.

I'm sure Eve will reach the point that I am desiring, one day. It's upon the horizon.

Well we used to call X games EVE offline. You could try EVE online.

It is as I had feared. Only a matter of time though. Gaming and technology truly have come a long way in such a short span of time. I look forward to what the future of space gaming will be in 5-10 years time. 😊

A few interesting space games but nothing on the scale of X. What other company would have the 8alls to attempt it?

i want to argue with that and claim some use to call eve X Online... but as this was already taken by egosoft them self it had to be named Eve instead. ;)

Well, Bethesda sort of is attempting it. We shall see though. Their Starfield game, to me, looks and sounds like No Man's Sky and X4, but with the Bethesda jank, look, and feel. I'm assuming not a great deal of depth compared to X4, but that's where modders come into play.

And if that kicks off, I feel like players will look at space games in a more interesting and positive light. Ultimately extending some people to try X4 or to make their own spin on a game similar to X4. I can't see any large companies doing it first, but a mid-sized indie company will have to pave the way for the future. Money goes where the player base is, so, let's get more people interested in these amazing space games and show them what can be done if a company actually cares about the gameplay and depth.

I can only imagine a game dev trying a space game like X4 for the first time, and deciding to create a game similar to it. I'm hoping that a spark will ignite for someone to create big, broad, and bold new games on par with what X4 has done thus far. 😊

This is exactly what I am talking about. The development team getting into the discussion boards and roasting the competition, 😂. It shows, to me, that you truly engage with the fan base, and are listening to what we talk about. Truly, a remarkable thing to see.

don't confuse me with an actual developer, i'm just wearing the tag to have access to more buttons.

in the end i'm just your average moderator and a player like anyone else.

*the real devs that are among us (and hopefully not hiding in some vent) are still reading in here though...

You passed the test. I am Egosoft CEO, Mr. Mimesly, and you have won the golden ticket for loyalty. Come on in to the office tomorrow. Just head right to my office and give me a good kick in the balls. I'll be there, and I will act surprised when you do the deed. You earned it though. You've slogged through the community boards, and this is the reward for supreme loyalty.

See you tomorrow at my CEO office. Just storm past my secretary, because she is in on the act. I'll have my ice pack ready for after the deed is done. And then, we will give you the new contract to sign, with promotion in hand. 😊

Hence the tall order. I'm thinking, 10 years, we will be playing in a vastly different landscape. What can I say... I'm a Belieber. (^_^)

Maybe 5 since AI seems to be suddenly getting better. it all depends when it gets incorporated into games. I've heard a couple of big companies are experimenting with the idea.

I mean, it could really open up new doors that were only imagined before but never implemented. I don't have too much hope in bigger companies with the funds to license sufficient AI. Not any time soon anyway. But when it happens, the gaming industry will finally have evolved to a new level, and there would be no need to look back. If they incorporate what AI can do currently, that would truly lift the gaming world into a new world. And the funny thing is, the other companies are doing the hard work currently. Testing, improving, and implementing their specific AI tools into real-world situations. It's going to be different for sure. I can imagine people that are introduced to video games in 10 years, looking back and at today's standards of gaming, and think to themselves "How the hell did they find enjoyment in those games?". It'll be like us, looking back on Atari and MS-Dos games, wondering how people could have managed without what we have as a standard in today's gaming world. It's going to be a wild ride when we arrive at that point in time.

My joke missed the mark, I suppose. Regardless, you are one lucky gamer. You must have the inside news of the company. Perhaps, even some private beta testing of the next iteration of X-series games. I envy you for your position, and for your geographic location ^_^.
eMYNOCK  [developer] Jul 24, 2023 @ 3:10pm
believe you me... there is not much to envy about... having a signed NDA means you can't freely speak about anything that might or might not come up next... and the location... pretty much the same as anywere else.

cold in the winter, hot in summer... and the buildings act as artificial mountains... its windy everywere.
