ZYA can take a few losses of sector the key important thing is for them to have the resource and centralization to keep the enemy back
What I usually do is rush the plotline for Split and support the rebel but only to a certain point.
This will allow ZYA to no longer need to defend Free Family space and once you help them recover their military might you will notice that suddenly they can defend themselves really well (it almost like they don't have to travel constantly to Free Family to kill Xenon)
When I did the Spear of Patriarch secondary missions I was able to do it fairly easily back before they had the dedicated Raptor shipyard.
Tips to do it quickly/easily:
First traders go to filling the Wharf/Shipyard with needed wares(probably Hull Parts)
Next traders support that line by transporting Refined Metals to Hull Parts
Next miners support any lacking Refined Metals stations
In my game Xenon primarily attacked Zyarth's Dominion I so I just sat there and sniped ships as they came through as I was waiting on things to happen. The main thing you want to focus on is destroying any mining ships you see.
Now the next part is cheesy but technically fulfills the requirements, and technically correct is the best kind of correct :D
Don't actually piss off Argon
Buy an admin module blueprint and build one in Eleventh Hour, Guiding Star VII, and Guiding Star V
Now for completion of the Spear of Patriarchy it's good enough if Argon doesn't own those sectors anymore. So what you can do is snipe out the admin modules from their defense stations so that control falls to you. I used the Rattlesnakes to do this.
You might get a -1 reputation for unathorized kill but if you've been trading in that area to funnel resources to ZYA then you can handle a -1 fairly easily. If all else fails just destroy some criminal traffic.
