stations in the tide
i currently have a recycling station in normal space and its obviously not tenable with the huge energy cell upkeep. so i know i can get more production in avarice, my only concern is the stupid station manager AI. is the AI smart enough to know to dock or remove all ships in avarice before the tide approaches? or will i have to micro manage this like everything else in my stations?

Yes and No.

From what I've read, they need to be 2 star pilots to dock to avoid the tide, but they will still die eventually. Not sure if it improves with more stars.

Your best bet is to use an L transporter with some good shields. As you only get warned about the tide if you're in Avarice.

They should be able to tank the tide and just keep operating.

Ships in Avarice or with orders taking them to Avarice get a warning before the tide and will leave/pause. So it doesn't *usually* kill them.

However, ships that are in a critical state like undocking, or which get an order to go into Avarice after that initial warning, will only get another warning literal seconds from taking damage when it's too late. Needs some work IMO.

That said, if you modify the ships with hazard damage resistance they should be okay. Probably. You can also just recycle outside Avarice by building a ridiculous number of solar panels on the station, since they're not actually very expensive and have no inherent upkeep themselves.

As others said, the AI is kinda meh when it comes to the tide. I personally don't think it's worth the bother and would rather build hundreds of solar panels.

there's a few other sectors that have above 100% solar output if you'd rather avoid dealing with avarice. Of course, they may be a bit far from where you want to build.
At least in my save (loaded from when Cradle of humanity launched) they are:
Mercury has 680%
Venus 190%
Bright promise 200%
Heart of Acrimony II 200%
Segaris 185%
Gaian Prophecy 186%
Savage Spur (xenon) 122%
Brennan's Triumph 121%

There might be more, I've kinda left a few chunks of space unexplored so i don't have them listed

You'd think they would patch this mechanic by now so it is at least somewhat reasonable with their horrible A.I. But nah. Fish-Horses that will (very) likely come with their own mess of broken mechanics are the name of the game now. Here's hoping their issues are at not as bad, at least. (I expect it to be a ****-show for the first few months as so many things are being re-worked).

Not to mention the trash haulers will get destroyed on a regular basis because they get drawn to wrecks, and surprise surprise, wrecks are usually created in dangerous areas with hostiles around.

They can't defend themselves and are extremely slow, and when one gets destroyed it acts as a magnet for others, snowballing into all your trash haulers getting destroyed often with no notification/warning as they die too quickly.

so im going to try it out and just outfit the station with large ships. but the current message says my station is not protected from the tide? do i just wait for them to finish teh dock and storage and then unload the protectyon in there?
also, is there a way to have the AI pick up protectyon instead of me manually flying thru the anomaly after a tide?
Asmosis Jan 9, 2023 @ 12:00pm
There's a good topic "Have you automated Protectyon?" which covers all your options.

but tldr; no.

so i have container storage but i dont see the option to offload protectyon. do i need to manually add it as a ware? and if so how will i know it works?

Do you have the Protectyon Shield module? That is the module that protects against the Tide.
You can either steal the blueprint with an EMP bomb (every Riptide station in Avarice has a protectyon Shield module) or buy it from the Riptide Rakers at 20+ rep.
Also, Protectyon needs condensate storage, only a few ships & modules can move/store it.

...that would have been good to know as part of the storyline. i do not have that or 20 rep with RR. so how long until my station is destroyed?

It will take like 6 or 7 tides.

any way to just tank the damage and repair each time? i dont see any trade opportunities to increase rep and i really despise the missions in this game.

You could just steal the blueprint with an EMP bomb. It doesn't lower rep or make the station hostile to you.

All you need is a bomb launcher and a EMP bomb, you can get them from a pirate station. You can get the launcher from any station.

For the moment, I use blacklist and trade rules to restrict my fleet acting in Avarice.

All ships acting within Avarice either had "Hazardous environment" modification on them(S/M Class) or just plain XL class Carrier/Asgard allowed to travel and/or trade within it.

While my default blacklist and trade rules barred all travel and interaction with Avarice alone.

Personally, I really see no point in plotting station in Avarice.

Given the bonus while attractive it had been seriously handicap by the tides mechanics, and it's imperfect voidance.

As for recycling station, I usually couple them with shipyard and wharves if it's in hot contested sectors, as a supplement material source.

Since to me their cred profitability is just too insignificant to amount to those with ship printing or even passive factions shipbuilding and repairs quotations.
