It can some times happen that friendly fire can cause it and it can escalate from there if they are attached to a fleet/group.
Just leave the sector and forget about it and it will sort itself out.
If they are fighting at all borders and across multiple sectors (which i doubt without mods) then you should upload a save for the Devs to look at because thats definitely not right
My personnal experiance in vanilla but COH and SV DLCs.
Some Teladi Destroyers were using the Split equiment dock in family Zhin but xenons were attacking regulary the sector so I guess the Teladi fought some xenons near the equiment dock and hit it, the station retaliated and this has led the teladi to completelly wipe out the sector and take control of it (they already had control of Family Nhuut.
I've seen the same happen between teladi and Paranids, now that you see graveyears of ships it's easy to notice, the paranids were shooting down lots of teladi ships in the border sector that was also regularily attacked by xenons (they had invaded to hewa's twin
so it happens, it'll go back to normal at some point
In other words the `excuses` were worse than the `crime`. Someone walks by and disturbs the air around me, and now for that reason I have to come and kill his whole family. What a nice just world. Just like the real one.
