Please add proper HOTAS support!
Its a crime for a space sim like this one to not have proper HOTAS support. AND YES I SAID "PROPER"!! *cough* *cough* Rebirth *cough*....

X Rebirth does support HOTAS controls, and X4 being based on the same engine as X Rebirth is likely to support HOTAS setups at launch.

If that isn't what you want, you are going to have to define proper.

Well don't get me wrong, I like Rebirth but god setting up your control profile is a nightmare. You have to do everything in the in-game setting manually, not to mention that some buttons don't even work properly ( I use an X52 btw ). There's already a bunch of threads about this on Rebirth forum you can check out for more info. But I have faith in Egosoft...

Despite all the posts made asking for hotas support that included pre-made control profiles including the X52 pro Egosoft did nothing to grant those requests, so i wouldnt have too much "faith" in egosoft if i were you.

Having proper hotas support usually means having pre-made control profiles, not just functionality where people have to map it all out, plenty of people tried to map out a control scheme in x rebirth on the x52 pro and the profiles never worked properly and caused people a lot of grief and wasted time.

If they add proper support, then they may go the elite route and require HOTAS to make the game playable.

I dont have a lot of faith in developers finding a middle ground, its always extreme left or right.

Whats so hard about binding a couple of buttons though really? I do it with my mouse in half the games i play, dont see why it would be any more difficult with a joystick.

1. Why would adding proper support as you put it "make the game require HOTAS to make the game playable", that makes no sense at all, people would just choose in the menu system what type of controller they want to use, and you mention Elite Dangerous, that game does not require HOTAS to make the game playable, you can use a controller as well as mouse and keyboard.

2. You say " Whats so hard about binding a couple of buttons though really? " so if it is so easy Egosoft could do it in a day for all major hotas sticks, they are selling a game to us, Elite Dangerous has pre-made bindings for all the sticks, it is called making a finished product catering for the people that they are selling a game to, why would you be making the case that people should make their own bindings, plenty of people tried to make bindings for their X52 pro and it never worked properly, why would you not want a developer to make pre-made bindings ? after all if people did not like the bindings then they can make their own, why would you not want to cater for all peoples preferences ?

You might as well say when you go to buy a new car "Whats so hard about putting the wheels on the car yourself after you buy it ?, i do it with all the cars i buy"

Allright, before I did kind of support this. After all, the JS-support in X3AP just sucks (can't even set sens and deadzone seperately for the axes). But default configs are not necessary. Nice to have, sure. But that certainly isn't what "proper HOTAS-support" boils down to.

People confuses the term support and compatible.

I agree 100%; I eventually just gave up on getting HOTAS to work for Rebirth-- just configuring my joystick was a major pain, and I have never played ANY game where a standard Logitech joystick wasn't auto configured. For a space game in which flying is where you spend 90% of your time, not having the game autoconfigure HOTAS (and even simple joysticks for that matter) is very frustrating.
HairballHacker May 6, 2018 @ 5:55pm
Agreed also 100%. I gave up on Rebirth for the same reason.

I don't know about the OP's definition of proper HOTAS controls; my definition is the ability to fly up/down left and right as well as go fast forward/backward and spin on three axis.

Without requiring twenty fingers and hours of setting it up manually.

I do agree with other commentors how it's either one extreme or the other, but Elite Dangerous only did one good thing and that was the flight control. Being able to drop out of hyperspace thingy directly in front of the station and zoom in while requesting landing permision is an easy trick. Apart from that though there's no real point to the game.

Back on topic personally it's about immersion. I want to feel like I'm flying a spaceship not commanding a submarine. I was able to get used to both keyboard/mouse and the X52 HOTAS setup in ED but for immersion I prefered the TrackIR HOTAS and on occasion VoiceAttack*.

* Don't set Boost as a voice attack command as it may not end well.

HOTAS is a must for me as well.. At least now, Rebirth DOES work with HOTAS as they did some work on it finally.

But yea, I hope X4 has better support for HOTAS.. To me, playing X4 with a game pad is like playing Star Citizen with a game pad... why you want to take away the immersion of 'feeling' like you are in a cockpit using actual controls, is beyond me..

I know, I know, some of you do... That's fine, you do your thing.. I just want to ALSO do mine.

Does not seem to have Thrustmaster 16000M supported
