For L and XL ship they need cargo drones.
That from my own experience on it.
Make sure the transfer wares is at the top of both ship order chains. may be best not to be on either ship personally (may be better if you are out of sector).
eg if you order the transfer, and the other ship has an order, it may try to finish that before the transfer.
This works large or xl to large or xl or combination of.
ensure cargo drones are active and the originating ship has them.
I don't know maybe I'm doing something wrong. I tried to do it after capturing a behemoth. I wanted to give it a repair drone from one of my marine transport ships. I set the order to transfer it (the originating ship had cargo drones and was L). and went about my business. Came back an hour later and it was still there trying to make the transfer happen.
I can transfer crew no problem, but not wares. Wares has never worked for me.
Ordered the rattler to transfer 2 repair drones to target. Ensured cargo drones enabled on rattler. it drove to the front of the target and did it.
If using a cobra or M ship that can carry drones, they can only do it if they can dock at the target I think. They can't do a space transfer.
I only do it to transfer drones, (usually repair).
Try removing the order from both, and just ordering 1 repair drone to transfer.
then make sure the transfer is top of both queues. they should head towards each other, mate and transfer. Maybe doesn't even need drones.
I wasn't on either ship or in sector, but the main factor I think is not to be captain of either ship.
try putting a 2 * pilot on the source ship?
what are your 2 ships, behemoth and ?
Just built a selene vanguard, and transferred 2 repair drones.
Do you have any other large warships or transports to try. It worked with the selene vanguard and an okinawa both times to a behemoth.
I did notice a post some time ago reporting a bug on one of the large transports to do with docking port incorrect.
I always have a service crew on ships. (usually marines to build eng skill).
there were drones on both ships but don't think that matters. If none, try transfering 1 cargo drone first.
Does the order stick in the order list? or as a failed order?
I am running on the latest / beta version.
In older versions I think there may have been issues regarding pilot skill, so If I have any problems I always start with a 2* pilot.
both ships have pilot, and you are not pilot of either?
try it between any other l ships. Do you have 2 behemoth? or 2 incarta?
I wonder if it is a bug in the ships you have chosen, was it a selene vanguard? that works for me.
I presume you have money in your account. some internal transfers may check that you have money for the 'purchase' although no money moves.
Dont think you need cargo drones on the target ship.
running out of things to suggest. The only thing I remember that stopped it, is if I clicked on a captured ship with no engines to originate the transfer (the ship cannot move to dock at the other ship). Or if no pilot on either ship.
try other ships. 2 behemoths etc. If that works for you try behemoth to another L ship.
If it works between 2 let us know which works and which (exact ships) don't work.
I always fit my ships with all software options, not sure if matters. Might need a docking computer?
S and M ship actually can transfer cargo in space by jettisoning it, but a receiving L or XL ship will still need to send out a cargo drone to perform the pickup. This is actually why I brought in a Buffalo to work with my boarding frigates. I don't have to rely any of the prize's drones surviving to get it moving quickly if I bring my own.
That's what I was going for as well.
