[Not Official Thread]Egosoft is (probably) working on X5 at the moment, what do you like to see in the new game?
Edit 2023: because some people may think this is an official thread with requests for feedback from egosoft. I'm not working fore egosoft and I'm just a player like everyone else.

Said that, I'm 100% convinced they work on X5. No doubt about it for me.

Original post:

I would like to see the current ships more different, the modules should be more different visually, For example the engines, after many hours of play they still look the same to me. So have them them better integrated in the ship design/color. There is no point in having the engines naked as they are now. Just put some panels that fit the overall ship design on top.

Obviously new ships, but for all of them, have better interiors. You should be able to visit and interact with the various modules. Like ship cargo and where the crew is working. Better if there is some gameplay elements attached to these interiors. Heck, extend that to station modules. One could visit a claytronics factory see what they are doing there.

But if not possible to create them different and functional, instead of having them generic then best to have more ships/modules with no interiors than fewer ships/modules with interiors.

Also, better characters models, these are awful as they are now.

Planetary modules/factories. This could be nice.

Integrate some nice plot elements about ancient civilizations or something similar with mass effect that we can discover on planets. I like the exploration part of finding vaults from the current game, but once you do a couple of them is not fun anymore. Especially the vaults with all those locks that you never know where they are.

Maybe some new enemy, some far away never seen before race that may or may not be friendly.

Or you could take the current AI races and make them be playable for the player. See if you can take over the whole systems without having any allies from the normal races. These races could have some method to steal other factions ships and stations. Replacing the crew with AI.

who tells you they work on x5? there are still so many inactive gates on the map...

and open space between the systems....

makes no sense to me to do nothing with the borons in endgame....

Well I personnally think they are working on a standalone expansion, my personnal wishlist is
1. Borons must come back in the x Universe !
2. A civilian economy that doesn't rely on war and ship replacement, maybe something like the workforce but more fleshed out, would help to improve production or give other bonuses.
3. More ships ! more interiors, more diverse interiors for factions, more story etc...

I know they are working on the new game because they've got a 2.5 million euros grant from the German government for the new game.

That is possible, but it doesnt mean they start immediatly. First you need a concept, art and so many other things.

But to your question what I wish: I hope better scripts (AI) to make the universe more atmospheric. A better and comfortable gameplay to play X like a real economy simulation, think the grafics and combats are really nice atm.

I dont want to repeat or blame the AI and your possabilities with the control of fleets again. That should be focused in my eyes.

Creating concept, art and so many other things, goes under "working on X5".

I really hope they are working on new X rather than expansion. With all the DLCs i think the universe is already big enough. Making it bigger will only impact late game performance.

I personally want to see more activities on stations. Also as Vali mentioned better AI.

new game doesnt necessarly mean x5, could be continuation of x4 but a standalone, u know like every other x game pretty much had, though they didnt really do dlcs like this before. even if working on x5 i think we probably wouldnt see it for another 5-6 years. still hoping for that new standalone that combines all current dlc tho and optimizes engine, i guess in a way that could be considered x5 but usually we see huge time jumps between X games, and standalone time jumps are usually only afew months to a year or 2 in game.

Inactive gates are part of the lore. From what I remember:
The gate network we have access to in X games is only a fraction of what it is. The Ancients have quarantined humanity and every species they encountered as the Xenons are too much of a threat to the universe.

Now we know from financial documents that egosoft is working on something that is on a bigger scale that the previous expansions. We do not know if it's X5, X4 Refoundation (the way we had X3R, X3TC and X3AP before Rebirth) or something else entirely.

Now, to answer the OP. I'd want:
The removal of mini-games or at least an option to completly ignore them. As far as I'm concerned they're ruining the fun and the immersion. At least a combination of mods and an autohotkey scripts allowed me to ignore most of them in X4 but I shouldn't have to rely on mods and a third party software to ignore that crap.

Revamped GUI. I'm not expecting a miracle from Egosoft but I'd like for them to remember the basic: Don't try to reinvent the wheel. As proud as they are of the map (and I'll admit it's a powerful tool), trying to shove absolutly every interaction through the map was a bad decision.

The ability to interact with the various station NPCs while still in my ship. Immersion is nice and all but sometimes I just want efficiency.

The ability to skip dialogues.

There's probably more.

one of the big ones i want to see simply readded, ability to Comm the station at a distance and see mission offers from npcs rather then having to search on the ground on stations for extra missions, for some reason those are not listed. Also the ability to have marine training added to stations again like they had in X3, i know we have the terraforming option, and that can always be superior, but it was nice being able to assign marines to training centers on military bases.

also just being able to see potential recruits from the info panel of a station when docked, maybe a personnell tab for recruiting, again so i dont have to spend 15 min running around the entire station looking for hires (maybe some rare hires sure but if people lookin for work it would be nice to have a job board)

Too early to say what they maybe working on. But am sure everything is hush hush now.

I would like the background simulation to be separated from the whole map into Pockets.

When you open the map without pause, the simulation continues but you can still give orders to your stations and ships.

If you want to observe what is going on, then you can load into only one or more adjacent Sector Analysis Overlay and see the icons of ships moving about. Giving you real time data of only those sectors.

The engine can be programmed to unload and load sector simulations as you pan around and zoom in and out of the map. This will help performance, if possible to implement, allowing us to manage large empires from the map while maintaining good fps.

During battles, a similar thing happens, you only simulate the update of moving ships in the sector where the battle is taking place, maybe by being zoomed in at the right level of sector analysis.

Whatever they are working on, I look forward to immersing myself into for thousands of hours.

said it before, but i really hope we get a combined x4 with all dlcs and a time jump of afew months to afew years, regardless though im sure il love what they come out with, have played X series since the original, remember playing X beyond the frontier as a kid and just loving doing trading (also hated docking, died so much) this will be a franchise i play for life i figure, as long as they keep maken em :D
mikemonger May 10, 2022 @ 6:00pm
1. The Boron
2. Jump drives
3. The Xenon Hub, but with a much more robust storyline.
Bab Peeg May 10, 2022 @ 7:48pm
A reason to use wingmen and formations
Less awful station attacking behavior
craneology May 10, 2022 @ 10:32pm
Faster game saves.
cobra188 May 11, 2022 @ 1:33am

Don Quijote May 11, 2022 @ 3:07am
1. Borons
2. New xenon battleships, requiring not one Asgard to defeat
3. More sectors with unique mechanics like Avarice
4. Fleet AI, UI ( i still cant figure out how to select different type of missles on XL, L ships)
5. Upgrades on performance side
6. Lottery like in X2(x3)
7. Old ATF ships (Tir, Valhalla)
