Is there even one?

there is no hotkey.

you go into scan mode, use the function menue on your target and select "scan" within 1 km distance.

than it will be scanned.

Shift 2 and Shift 3..and Shift 3 is the activation for the long range scan..after that i have to hold the "Y" key at my gamepad (secondary fire button ) for not less than a second and not more long than the sound is telling.

That is the one I'm talking about, which I know how to do... it's just nearly impossible to scan any fast moving target using that ridiculous drop down menu. Especially when using fly at cursor.

as said.. there is sadly no hotkey to initiate this scan.

but it is managable to scan nearly everything.. even while fly@cursor mode is active.

just needs a lot of practice.

The best way to scan a ship is to hit the pause/break key when you get lined up and ready to scan. You can right click on the target to initiate the scan then un-pause the game. I recommend that you are already in scan mode before you pause the game.

I was able to figure out how to do it without having to pause by using Voice Attack. I give a voice command to "Scan Ship" and Voice Attack turns on scan mode, moves the mouse cursor to the center of the screen, right-clicks and selects the scan ship option, then turns scan mode back off. Once done, it moves the mouse cursor back to the lower-right corner of the screen. Since I use a HOTAS and Voice Attack, I only use the keyboard/mouse for about 5% of the things I do.

There *is* a default hotkey, apologies for resurrecting this thread, but i just found it myself, and incase someone comes looking in the future... With scan mode active, and the ship targeted, just press SHIFT+F

Back then, when this thread got created and answered (more than a year old) there wasn't one.... they added it since then!

Im not at my PC isn't Shift F a hotkey for scanning other ships? And Shift 2 for Stations , and Shift 3 for long Range. You can go look for all the hotkeys in settings to find them.

Ok but am I right? 😄

Shift-F, I map it to a mouse button, along with all the common commands. Logitech Gaming Software or something like it solves the hotkey issue.

Ima re-necro the necro - but you'd think all that should be needed is:
Be in scan mode
Target the ship

Kinda silly to have to specifically initiate it.

There is a hot key- its listed in this thread, it's shift+f by default and can be rebound with basically any 3rd party key mapper is desired

It's been brought up a lot. There are a few missing hotkeys like this that would be amazing. Drop satellite for instance. Drop laser tower. Drop mine.
