Patrol Ship Repair
Is there a way to get the ships defending my stations to go dock and auto repair themselves? Or do I have to tell them to go dock and repair at a station manually?

Unfortunately, there is no auto-repair. You must repair them by manually sending them off to the appropriate station for repairs.

This is one way, another way is to teleport to the ship that needs repaired and fix it yourself.

Don't service crew auto-repair?

I always marvel at the lack of "Health less than XX% go do something about it" logic available in strategy games.

I hope the "supply" ship they have been talking about will also include repairs

I hope they'll implement this in a future patch - otherwise, what's the purpose for service crew, do they have any benefits?

From what I saw, service crew do repair, but in Frigates and Destroyers, I haven't tried the other capital ship yet

None..... Not even sure what the repair droids are for if they don't repair things. They may take time off of loading and unloading wares....nope they don't do that either. Ok they may make it easier to do certain tasks....nope... Ok can't find a reason for them other than a gameplay gimmick that appears to be useless. Good to hear from Kirshak they actually do do something.....that's a plus. Sounding more like unfinished features.....that will either get fixed by the devs or modders.

A pilot should have sense enough to know their ship is in need of repairs and request it.....instead of continuing to put themselves at risk with a broken ship.

If you have a ship that utilizes drones, you can add a repair drone or two and the ship will be repaired by those as well as the service crew.

If you have a ship that doesn't have drones, you can go to a ship dealer at a wharf (for M/S ships), go to the modding bench and in the hull mods you will see a mod that increases Units. This is actually the number of drones that a ship can carry. I don't know of any small ships that use drones and there are quite a few medium ships that don't, but if you mod the hull for units, you can add a repair drone or two and it will auto-repair the ship for you. Even though the drone can't actually launch, it will still do the repairs from inside the ship.

M and larger ships will auto repair to a maximum defined by crew skill and a minimum of ~60%. Hence such ships will not need to repair in most practical applications.

Only S ships need to repair and repairing should be part of a restock order, however that is not yet implemented from what I can tell.

M and larger (not sure, maybe just L and larger) ships will repair at 1/10 speed unless a repair drone is present. More repair drones increases repair speed.

I use destroyers a lot and the repair drones seem to target damaged components, just enough to get them rolling again if they are destroyed, but I haven't seen them repairing until the nodes reach 100%. Feels like the repair drones are just here to do emergency repairs, but if I want my capital ship repaired to 100% I need to dock it to a wharf or shipyard.

So far, I haven't seen the cargo drone doing anything, I tried using my destroyer to load some ressources to a mercury, nothing happened

Currently, cargo drones will only transfer wares between ship and station.

They will only be repaired to 100% with a perfect captain and perfect service crew. Maximum repair percentage is based on their skill.

So far from self piloting a behemoth there are observed hull repairs done by both the repair drones and service crew, the more the number of crew the faster the repairs.

The repair drones kicks off first when 50~40% hull damage is accounted repairing until it hit 60% or when all repair drones dies which ever comes first.

And the service crew only commerces repair at around 30~20% repairing up to 80% without the help of drones.

The guns and turrets damaged(destroyed) in fights are not repair by them however. You need to head for shipyards to do those repairs/replace them.
