How can i cap my FPS lower?
Thats right i said lower
Ive messed around with the settings and i can only get it to be lower than 150fps

The problem i have with this is A. it stresses my pc more to run this high. B. fan noise and C. power usage / enviromental costs
All that aside in other games i can lower my FPS to 45 and not see the slightest difference in my game (or feel the difference)

So, for me, playing higher than 45 fps is pointless, wasteful and unnecessary

In ARK Survival Evolved for example, i can open the console and type t.maxfps 45 and my fps will never go above 45
In No Mans Sky theres a slider i can choose 45, and same result

So how can i do this in X4 please?

Normally, you can cap your frame rate by using programs (such as nvidia control panel, etc.)from your graphic card manufacturer. Quite often, it works better than using option provided in games. So, it might be a good idea to search for it.

I like and recommend Rivatuner Statistics Server program for this.

Wow. Your reaction times must be comically bad if you can't see the difference between 40 and 60 fps.

If you enable vsync the game (any game) will only run as fast as the refresh rate of your monitor. Which is most likely 60fps.

Thank you both LRB & ApexLanius, i will give obth of those a try, in the order those recommendations came, much appreciated, seasonal good wishes to you both.

DaddyShark, i see a big difference between 40 and 45, i see little to no difference between 45 and 60, so i opt for lower
You should learn to read before coming along with your judgement
As for my reaction time, well im blind in one eye and have rheumatoid arthritis in my wrists and hands because im old
Also the vsync thing is first result when i searched the web, and seemed to do nothing, so maybe it got fixed, it seems 4-5 years old and is described as a bug, so ...

Haha enjoy your game. After some hours you will be happy if you get 20fps.

That doesn't compute. You can see the minute difference between 40 and 45fps but the jump up from 45 to 60 you can't tell a difference? Something here isn't adding up.

Not if you have a 240 hz monitor.... I'm here because I have the same problem. I have my new computer (I9 13900, RTX 4090 and 32 Gb @6000 mhz ram). But the game is running at 150-200 fps in full Ultra 2k resolution. I have like 80-90 fps on heavy station.

The problem is my GPU temperature hitting 80 celcius really fast. I set the game to high instead of Ultra, i'm nearly 70 celcius, so it's fine now. But if I can cap the FPS, it gonna help, even in full Ultra.

I mean, even Red dead redemption 2 in full Ultra with everything enable run fine with a good temperature (75 celcius maximum in like 2 hours of gaming)

use msi afterburner, and set the gpu power taget to 60 %. your energy consumption will get down, but your fps should not drop that much

It's a bit of a necro of a thread but you are on topic which is still a relevant one as well. Since you have an Nvidia; go to your Nvidia control panel (small Nvidia icon near your clock in the startbar), there you can set program preferences specifically for X4 by specifying a profile. If you keep everything to defaults (usually called "application-controlled") except for the frame limit, you're set.

That way you also don't need to fiddle with other software as the Nvidia control panel is installed with your RTX card drivers.

I'd ask why you care if the card is hitting 80C? It's still within it's operating specifications and shouldn't cause any harm. The fans on your card don't even hit 100% until 81 degrees. Unless you're going over 90C you're fine and have nothing to worry about.

You dont need any game/3rdparty app to setup your maximum frame limit for your pc.
If you use Nvidia Drivers.

1. open up the Nvidia Control Panel

2. in the left window side KLICK Manage 3D Settings

3. on the right window side. select global settings scroll down to "Max Frame
Setting" and Setup youre Desired Framerate there.

4. klick apply on the bottom right corner to save it.

4b if you use youre own program-settings for X4 you have to set it there. Global is
if you dont use anything special.

I saw someone talking about RivaTuner and I have it (because I use Afterburner) so I start using it to cap my FPS. I cap my FPS at 80, so now I have a constant 80 FPS and my GPU is sleeping at 60c lol, so it's fine now.

But I want to allow maximum frame on some games, it's not true that we don't need it on every games. In some case, it's better.

I take note to slow down the power target of the GPU, I already think about it too, but yeah, just limiting the FPS seems good.

Edit : Oh and I'm sorry about necro the old thread. To be honest, I never scroll down the discussion to see the subject I want... When I have question or something I want to know, I use Google and this thread was the first of the list...
