Do autominer deploy resource probes automatically?
No info to be found about this.

You could equip them with resource probes and manually order them to deploy them.
IE:
Deploy probe at this location
Deploy probe at that location
Default Behavour: Automine that sector

As far as I know ships that are set to automine don't deploy resource probes. They are meant to be deployed by the player to tell the auto-mining ships were best to mine. I could be wrong though.

Auto miners don’t drop probes on their own.

The resource probe' main benefit is to increase the rate that miner collect resources. Just have your miners loaded out with resource probes, they'll go someplace to mine, and when they are at the mining spot, just order them to drop a probe.

It used to be that miners would focus their efforts on areas reveals by resource probes, but it seems they are moving away from that behavior somewhat (5.0+). So no, autominers will not automatically lay resource probes, but going forward, they will not be as dependent on or affected by them as they have been. They will still be required for base mining, I believe, but will not have as great an effect, in that they will not focus specifically on areas near the probes.

They ignore probes if the yield there is below the sector average afaik. At least that fits with my own observations.
For the Reach iirc the area around the gate has fairly low yields with the middle of the resource field being much higher, so that may be it.

I have a bunch of active miners and haven't dropped a ressource probe in my (admittedly not that long playtime) in my life and they still work fine.

Yeah, you don't need resource probes for mining to work but you do need to discover the mining areas, in large relatively even resource fields the miners themselves will then discover the rest.

They definitely can auto mine without probes.
I have around a dozen of ships mining, both for stations and auto mine, and 0 probes deployed.

Yeah problem is that the miners keep giving me upkeep quests/mission so they can mine better.
lnomsim Jan 27, 2022 @ 5:28pm
You can ignore those.
In the last playthrough I did with probes, not only I had plenty of probes deployed, but the upkeep missions were still there, and the miners assigned to a mining station were mining two sectors away, in a sector with fewer resources, and no probes at all.

Resources probes are just a waste of time and money.

Actually in 5.0 beta they are changing that so probes are not needed, but do still help out. Wether or not its work as intended in beta 2 test not sure...

Was it 5.0 Beta? Because they removed probes being a big deal still nice to have, but no longer required.

No, it was on 4.x, to be honest, i have been playing the game since release, and it was the only time I used probes (mainly because the prospecting missions in Segaris were big easy money)
