Boarding Missions
How do they work exactly? I mean I know how to tell my ships which vessel they should board and attack, what PD to focus on etc.

1) My question is when I get a mission to board a ship from lets say the Argons, where I have to board one to capture a scientist my reputation goes down for attacking the ship? Am I missing something or should I just go ahead and try to board the ship without taking down the defenses first so I wont kill any crew on the enemy ship?

2) Second question would be: How do I tell a ship to stop attacking the vessel I am currently boarding? They just keep firing on it with their marines on it and cause it to explode. Kinda dumb lol, surely I must be missing something here too?

1) you can board without fighting the ship itself.
it just take longer but it the safest way to not get hostility.

2) you can do this during the boarding menu same with the other question.

I have two L capture ship full of marines.
what I do is.
1. As I'm selecting the amount of marines to board on both ship then I select the "ship behavior while engaging the target"
2. I make them both maintain distance. (make sure to actually change both ship and not just one)

I then choose the approach as very strong, infiltration as very strong.

This make them launch the marines and stay away without shooting.
the marines will take fire as they approach and it will take them longer to infiltrate but if you succeed it won't have the same risk of destroying the ship.

Thanks, I will try this now

This is only for the ship you are about to board. If you attack a ship or station often enough, you will temporarily (!) lose reputation with the ship or station. The reputation with the faction doesn't change. The faction reputation will only drop if you destroy something, be it a ship, drones, a station module or surface elements like shields, turrets, engines, ...

I can't find separate info on the boarding missions. The one I have is to board the ship, and then protect it/fly it, and makes me think it changes the normal boarding mechanic. Once I hear, "breaching" then I seem to find no further info - nor any way to know if my marines are alive, if the mission is progressing, or anything. I also can't seem to re-open my boarding interface where ostensibly I could see the status of said marines?

Also, nobody seems to say, anywhere in the 20 threads I've read, how LONG it is supposed to take. I don't "wait" in a game with pause unless I absolutely have to. And waiting for an indefinite amt of time is not my idea of fun.

If the boarding mission is active, you can see the status in the window in the bottom left. It will tell you if you need to destroy some turrets or if you need to lower the hull of the ship. If this is done, the marines will start "drilling" through the ship's hull. Depending on the current hull points, this can take from some minutes to over 30 minutes or so (if you decided to use the "very strong" option on a XL ship for example).
The mission text will just tell you "protect the ship". And you can only wait. This is the longest part.

If the marines completed the drill part, they will fight the ship's crew. Again, there is no bar telling you how long it will take. But if you hear your co-pilot and other staff asking for updates and you hear answers "green! moving forward", "enemy contact, go go go!", "aaaaarrgh uUaaaaaahh", "the commander is dead!" and other silly stuff, you know that your marines are still fighting.
After some minutes the mission is either completed (and the ship is yours) or failed (you marines died).

You should see the marine boarding mission in the mission tab, just like any other mission. I think you can also right click on the ship you want to board and choose the board option, so it opens the boarding window.
Yep, you may select your ship and the right click on the target -> Board. You'll bring back boarding menu where you can see current number of your marines and remained enemy crew (if the target was scanned).

What if I'm out of sector?
Dunkler Messias Oct 4, 2024 @ 5:30pm
Doesn't matter. The boarding operation stays active.

Or if you were talking about the boarding menu: If the ship is not in scanner range of one of your ships or satellites, then you can't right click on it. But why would you do that anyway? Just wait and the ship will be yours eventually. Or have another ship follow it.

Thanks for the helpful info/replies! :-) Fly safe!
