I've only checked the other chain briefly, but it appears to be about setting the narrative of the new sectors by introducing factions, mechanics and important places.
I'd say both hold up in quality compared to the CoH chains, might even say from all the story content I've played in X4 so far, which isn't much mind you, I like them best.
That specific story has several instances where you have to wait a little while before the story can progress. Storywise the Teladi is off doing his own thing and will get back to you when he has something for you.
Honestly, I'm still not convinced by this DLC yet.
SV added dozen of sectors, 2.5 factions, dozen of ships of all size and roles with interesting designs.
Their storyline gave us a free corvette and fighter.
COH added dozen of sectors and 2.5 factions, dozen of ships and specific equipment for all sizes and roles, with interesting design, new economy, completely new stations design, a long storyline that tied in with previous content and could change NPC factions relationships.
TiO adds 5 Frankenstein fighters and 1.5 courrier that are subpar with already existing ships, that look exactly like already existing ships if they had cancer, 4 sectors, extremely grindy missions that cost more than they make you turn a profit.
The first piracy mission has us attack a teladi M high tech freighter, that move really slowly to the highway until it reaches it and vanishes, making it extra hard to track down if we haven't put satellites in the next sector beforehand, satellite we can't afford anyway since we don't have money.
Once the ship drops its cargo, our ship cargo hold is so small, we can't take everything in, it would take dozen of going back and forth to sell everything, for less money than a simple mission would give.
Money that we will have to spend in buying a bomb launcher anyway.
We can't even buy more ships since one, we don't have money, and two, we have a negative relationship with all other factions, including the pirate ones.
By the time I am in that DLC, I usually have my first mining station up and running with at least 4 S miners, I have already begun research in the PHQ.
Right now, I still have that **** starter ship, the transport ship from the HAT plotline, and my bank account is still empty.
And since piracy drops relationships with other factions, making money extremely slow with it isn't really an option either.
I think the most money I made so far was while mining crystal for the very first mission to find that black marketer that required unstable crystal. because what's best to introduce the new pirate gameplay than forcing the mission to grind crystals that were nerfed 3 patches ago?
And because when you are a pirate, the best way to conduct business is with black marketers in sectors with heavy police presence, right?
I mean, pirates don't have free ports, it would be a shame to use them for pirates' activities...
