You can take out K's with a pack of S ships.
I had 40 S Pulsar equipped with very basic MK1 modules. 1 ship cost ~1million.
With those I kill Xenon K OOS (out of sector) in 20 seconds without a single ship lost.
I normally build a defence station at Hat 1 on the gate to Tharkas and that will stop the Xenon but really you will need around 40 mill and access to L Par Plasma and enough Turret components to get it built as quickly as possible.
While all of this is going on try supply the Argon shipyard and keep your fingers crossed for a Terran expedition force to arrive.
If you`re a good pilot you could probably make do with an M class ship and get a smaller ship to keep putting down laser towers.
Hat 1 is always an issue and as its a major route you need to consider defending that gate early or be far enough away from it that its not an issue.
I don't know how much help you'd like, but I think I'd recommend boosting your total income first. Easiest way (that I find) is to set up miners to local automine, where they can dump off their ore/silicon/methane etc. in the same sector as stations. Can recommend certain areas, but don't want to spoil too much if you don't want it.
For the xenon, I'm still learning on this run (16 hours in) as to how to deal with them, as they seem to be quite a fair bit stronger. I think I would go for a destroyer over a station myself, for the mobility and utility of it. Stations take some time to set up, along with good number of blueprints/resources to just set it up well. Ships to guard as it's building. If you see the ai fighting nearby with the xenon, can always send in the destroyer to help take the xenon out. Might have to pick and choose your battles here.
Worst case scenario, you can take the run as a 'watch the galaxy burn'
xenon were definitely boosted in 5.0. Not complaining at all though.
No mods here BTW.
I would advice to get into boarding, it's a good way to build a fleet quick to hold the Xenon. If you struggle with boarding mechanic there is a ton of youtube videos about it.
Because I didn't wanted them to roll over the sectors early. But I stopped long ago.
Now the factions are a little stronger, and handle them by themselfes (sadly).
The factions fight each other very very very rarely. With small fleets. (I support them with everything, so they could build way more ships if they wanted)
PAR and ANT have build factorys in HOP sectors... even they are at war...
Terrans flying everywhere, but only attack xenon sometimes. Ignoring all others.
Split are at war with each other, but don't fight.
Teladi liking everyone.
Argons sitting in their sectors doing nothing.
One Split sector changed to Xenon, that's all.
Almost all storylines done (every faction decisions made, for profit ^^ ). Money is flowing.
I know you could control the factions (cutting supplies for factions and stuff), but that you need to do that, so the AI is not falling into winter sleep...
But that could be because of Terran dlc. Terans completely overpowered.
They alone have almost twice stronger fleets then xenons by default.
