Any mods for docking?
Any one know of any good mods for station docking? I just...can't do it. I mean even with the software that lets you basically crash into the landing pad I still have to creep around the station....find the little docking door...creep even slower after entering...and go to my assign landing pad. Feels like X3 if you ever accidentally flew off in a ship and then realized when you went to dock at a station you forgot a SETA.

I just want X3 docking. Automate the mundane boring features so I have more time to do the actual fun stuff. Really scares me for X5...are they going to go full on Sims and have us use the head on the ship?

You could always let an AI captain dock you. It's pretty much the same as what an autodock would do. Also with a little practice it becomes very easy, I'd say just stick to it. It's a bit harder if you have no docking computer at all but as long as you insist on MK2 then you'll find it gets easy quickly.

Main thing is to not overdo it on the speed. S/M docks slow your ship's max' speed but some of their slowing fields are very small so they leave little room for correction if you hurtle into them. And don't race up to a pad with SETA engaged unless you know what you're doing.

I actually prefer X4's take on docking, I think X3's was utter garbage (total waste of time if you factor in the sort of space landing strips, and how ridiculously far from the landing spot they actually start you on autopilot). They've managed to find a nice middle-ground between simplicity and still having to initiate docking in some way yourself. Having maybe like a MK3 computer start the docking procedure for you upon entering the slowing field would be nice but I don't think it's necessary.

I also prefer x4 for docking, It's honestly not that hard, never play Elite dangerous if you find docking in x4 hard ^^

With the docking computer all it takes is for you to move towards the green dock and the ship will land on it own, if you can't even do that I don't know what to tell you lol maybe change your hands or something or yeah ask a pilot to dock for you...

How to dock in X4:
1. get docking computer
2. aim crosshairs at the landing pad with the green hologram
3. boost

Even if you glitch into the station the docking computer will just rubberband you back out and place you on the pad properly, so as long as your aim is good going slow isn't necessary.

Yes I am aware of the docking computer if you actually read my post. I just don't want to spend half my game time flying around the station to the dock. It is rediculous. And then they actually automate the forward guns...they automate the fun part and make mundane boring stuff that you have to do over and over manual. This is such crap.

It is not the process of docking I am complaining about it is that you have to do it all. This should be all auto pilot on SETA stuff. What is this? Battlestar Galactica? Why not have us have to go turn a crank to put our landing gear down too? Can make a whole minigame out of it.

Are you sure you played X3? Waste of time? you moused over the station and selected dock and turned on SETA. It might have took 30 seconds to dock. Once you got the docking computer it was instant after jumping to the station. You got to focus on imporatant stuff and let the computer handle the boring stuff.

Autopilot on SETA xD yeah try that I'm sure you will have a lot of success :')

Nah man you actually have to dock here, and SETA is absolutely not recommanded except if you are in a sector with very low activity.

Crazy !! Basically Complaining you are too lazy to fly to the dock of the station, I mean if you press schift+D it will show you the path to the docking module if you are too blind to find it.

Docking takes like 5 seconds with a docking software.

When it comes to Elite Dangerous, once I mastered docking I considered myself having "beaten" the game lol. But yeah to the OP just let the ai captain do it for you. Take that time to sip some coffee over the captain shoulder or eyeball that shifty Terran navigator you just picked up. Complain loudly about profit reports then mention under your breath something about organizational changes needing to be made. They'll dock that station lickity split!

I did play X3, actually. Extensively. Docking was garbage my guy, but to each their own I suppose. And yes, it was a waste of time. SETA doesn't justify how long the full AI-controlled wait was for docking, nor how insistent the AI was at starting from the edge of the docking lines. SETA only speeds up the in-game flow of time, so it still takes a considerable amount of in-game time to complete. And it's true that using an AI captain to dock you in X4 might dawdle and end up spending more time waiting to dock than even in X3, but you can still dock yourself faster and safer in X4. That and it looks better, but that's my take. The AI captain docking you is the next-best thing in X4 if you want more automation. The point is that you can fully automate the process if you want to.

Docking manually is very easy. It's only difficult if you insist on not using the computers and avoiding wherever your assigned pad is. I don't know why you seem to imply otherwise but it's a git gud scenario.

Let's be clear about this: the autopilot and AI flight otherwise is still one of the worst aspects of X4. It's just worse in X3. It's inconsistent and prone to failure in both games but contingencies against that are better in X4 as far as I've seen.

Despite all that I DO agree with you about automating it more. If I could just switch on autopilot and have that dock me even as a captain would then that's cool—cuts out any set-up time after all. The point was that docking is so trivial in the end for minimal cost that there's not much use-case for it, at least I'd say so.

I realise nobody answered the OP title so I guess the answer is no. Nothing on Nexus and nothing on the workshop. I guess theoretically you could extend the autopilot to dock but I wouldn't know how to go about doing that. If you find a way, I'd appreciate a mod'. :P

Nah, you beat the game when you can take a Python loaded with illegal wares 1km away from station, do a high burn with no shields and running silent, flight assist off,, line up with the mail slot by 500m out, getting docking permission, coast through the mail slot without colliding with anything, turn on assist while breaking heavily, and dock before anything can scan you. Have yet to do it myself, but it is probably a big rush when it happens.

As to the OP, you basically need to learn what a docking pad looks like. Then you can pretty much see it while your approaching and adjust accordingly.

Otherwise, just have an NPC pilot on the ship and order them around.

Elite is easy mod, freaking docking computers make it so I can arrive, activate it and go refill my cup and be docked lol You got be a hardcore slot hoarder to go "its not worth getting docking computer on my massive ship in elite!"

I was quite put out when they got rid of internal docking from X2. I was in fact craving the docking from Elite from 1984. The whole flying to an external arm thing seemed so weak. This game is a flight sim among other things, and though weak in the flight sim experience what it does offer is is fun and unique to the x series of games.
It is OK to be the odd duck who cannot manage one particular aspect of flying. You are not the only one. There are many like you out there...mummified... drifting through space...

Mister, I dock manually with an imperial cutter without shield to maximise profits.
No, I'm not a hardcore slot hoarder, I just have teladi blood. (plus docking computers use a tech slot, use some powerplant power and have a queue to dock. It's quicker to dock manually.)

The real challenge is finding the freaking dock on small stations.

Thanks, that is how it should be. I am actually already using the bottom link. I didn't find it at first on Nexus because I was just searching for docking mods. I haven't looked at the top one...might be fun after I've played the game out some.

But holy cow at the idiot elites in here thinking they are special because they can dock. It is not hard...it takes no special skill. It is just a worthless time sink. Well...have fun living in 1995 while the rest of us automate boring stuff.

No need to get snippy, "skippy"! So you just admitted that you cant be bothered to do the landing that takes less than 60 seconds of your time instead of your original statement "I just can't do it". Watch the video.. it takes that long and it is "That hard"!
