What matters is the consumption Rate and the demand your HQ has.
If you are experiencing frequent Shortages with one Mineral you either have too less Miners or a too high consumption.
Especially the Terran Silicon Carbide and Computronic Substrate Modules will chew through Silicon in mere Minutes.
You can bypass this by building a simple Station that is dedicated only to Mine and distribute Silicon... means its Miners will and can only go for one singular Resource and its Traders will and can bring this Resource to anyone who needs it... depending on the Stations Trade Rules.
That should deal with the issue of ships flying around with half-full cargo holds at least.
It might also deal with the priority issue, at least my 4 refining stations don't have any issues like that despite mining, refining and selling all gases and minerals.
As for the order the list is in i don't think it matters for what priority your manager assigns to the wares.
At least my miners mine whatever the station is low on with the settings above no matter the order they're in.
ill try buying more miners and see where i can go from there, ill get a new station if i get desperate, i like having one building do everything for the moment
If they haul in Ice they most likely pick it up with the silicon all together... this indicates strongly that you are present in the same sector and are in visual distance to them.
though.. ice isn't the worlds end... you can simply sell it as well... or refine your own water out of it... Ice = Food.
since only 50% of available storage space is used at that station it would be nice if mining ships that are set to mine for a station had a "transfer to" command instead of a "sell to" - to be able to drop off their cargo even if the limit for that ressource is reached (if there is enough storage space of course)
Trading is categorically unachievable because star progression is gated behind quests HARD. As a completely foreseeable result, the community makes most of its automated money through sector mining.
But oh no can't have that, here's a *laughably* heavy nerf to silicon yields, and to make it worse, it's also tied to the cancerous star progression system.
I was a good little boy and didn't exploit the hell out of the sector mining. I've got factories everywhere. It doesn't matter. My economy has been nuked. I can't keep my factories supplied with three times the number of L miners of factories which were previously happy with a fleet of Ms.
I've got the drones, I've got two star miners (which they will stay at forever because I'd rather play a different game than place satellites for the 40 hours it would take to level up my factory miners). It doesn't matter. They won't even touch it. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ manager AI is now much more pronounced because the mineral yields are so slim. It's like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ robot trying to shoot a smaller target.
You are NOT alone. I've been here since X3: Reunion and I expected better from them than this. That game got incredibly better with patches. This time they're repeatedly putting sticks in their own bike spokes and putting their fingers in their ears about star progress.
I have a dedicated station gathering methane if it wasn't for those 2 miners I would have almost no methane/graphene at all at the PHQ.
How do I build a dedicated silicon mining station? Just Build a station, assign miners and traders, and set the ore/ice yield to 1? Im afraid of running into the same problem--miners getting ice and ore because 1 is still a demand, i imagine theres a more elegant way to block wares
makes my M sized miners fill their holds in 1 shot. just low lvl 1-2 star guys. 1 Bolo pulls in 10,500 ore/silicon per hour. 5 min a trip to and from factory and most of that is travel time.
Build just a dock and storage for solids. set Trade Ware buy order for Silicon, assign miners to station, only thing they will mine is Silicon since its the only thing your station is set to buy. may need more docks as number of miners grow. Set Trade Ware sell order for Silicon. Assign a few mining ships as TRADERS at the station that needs the Silicon from your warehouse. Miners will fill warehouse and Trader/Miners will move the Sill back to Factory.
I build a warehouse in sectors i mine. miners dont waste time gating sector to sector. use Alligators for your Trader/Miner if you can, fast liquid/solid transport.
I do not know if you are really DEV but the BIG BUG and visible as the nose in the middle of the face , I do not need ice cream I have enough millions! , I built a silicon-only station to test the miners to see what’s wrong! ,
and the you tell me that this is normal? , many messages on the forums to complain about the missing silicon!! so fix your code and don’t drown the problem in wacky explanations!!! , if my backup not marked "modified", I would do a lot of code again!!!

This is already one of the problems with the lack of resources!!
