gravimetric studies, cant start the Joint Long Rance Scan. Need help

So I'm on the third part of "gravimetric studies", where I've placed 3 ships each on a point in space, and now I'm supposed to start up my long range scanner. But doing so leads to nothing. Am I missing something?

as you already have placed ships at the nav beacons it should suffice to take control of one of them.


than change into LRS Mode and fire a scan burst your self.

i have the same problem . 3 ships in place i am in one of them started long range scan ( visiual burst apears ) but nothing happens the quest does not go on

Are you sure they are in the right places?

Also, are you using any game mods?

you need the other 2 ships in your fleet, and use the last command for them, can't write that in english, so sorry, join my fleet and make the same command as the leader or so :)

Double check their positions with your right mouse button. They / you might be too high or below the marked zones.

I recently send 3 other ships via map into marked places, jumped into my ship nearby, used R in Shift+3 mode. It worked too. Maybe try that.

You should also get a response over coms if those ships are in the right position.

Edit: I never had them join my fleet btw. Just grabbed some traders/miners from nearby and send them there with "Fly & Wait" command

Okay i got the same problem but we are actually not carfully listened to eMYNOCK. You have to trigger a scanburst in Long-Range scanning mode. (i never did that before and the game never required it or teached me before) However it was one of my mouse sidebuttons and you have to hold it for a moment and then send the bust out.

Shift + 3 to bring up LRS. Then press whatever your launcher button is bound to, think by default it's "L" and/or "R" on the keyboard. Maybe it works on the mouse? I haven't tried. :D I'll have to check that out.

I completed this quest not too long and go and went off without a hitch. Just need to make sure you line up your other ships and when everyone is where they are supposed to be, get into LRS mode then trigger the scan with the launcher key (L or R, or maybe mouse side button). As it's been said, need to hold it down for a little for it to charge up then release it.

wow this quest is a pain until you figure out the pieces of info to make it work.

place 3 ships in the 3 locations, enter long range scan mode then press and hold the secondary fire button (whatever you have that function mapped to) to charge the scan pulse, then release it to send the actual scan pulse.

I have my 3 ships in place with LRS software V2 at the beacon locations.
I enter LRS mode.
I hold and release secondary fire button L and tried on the joystick.
Nothing happens??!!

I have had captains command ships with mimic functions. I have tried just about every permutation and beacon location. Still no joy.

What can I possibly be doing wrong?

Do you release it at the right time? (Just when the light bar is strongest, but before it dissapears? Holding it too long will make the scan fail as far as I know)

Yeah I have realised that I'm holding too long. I thought when the bar goes red it means it is ready to ping at full strength. I would suggest to the Devs to disable holding onto the red bar because it entails that you can still do something when in fact it is worthless at that point. Also Devs: Once at peak, just release the ping! What is the harm other than confusing the ♥♥♥♥ out of me.

Ditto. I read the above posts and still failed again and again. Why is it possible to overcharge your scanner ping? What the hell? What is the point of that?
