Touchscreen shards by Gameglass

So, I play Star Citizen. They sent a notice that come tomorrow the will release "shards" to add control panels to other touchscreen devices. On the Gameglass page they say X4 can be played using these.
Is this just a tablet being used as a second, or third, screen? Is a slate the same as a phone or tablet?

More interaction options are always nice, but X4 doesnt really have at all the same level of HUD interaction during flight, other than maybe having the map/property screens always up on a tablet I cant really think of anything immediately useful.

Edit- Well, having something like the local object/ship lists or ship radar projected to a tablet could be cool
