There is a couple of reasons why the Game can freeze but without knowing on wich kind of Hardware or Software you are playing it is all just guessing until we evntually stumble upon this or that specific part of Hardware or that special, unique AV Scanner that was not mentioned before.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
Nvid - 2060
HyperX 16GB KIT DDR4 3600MHz
MSI MAG B550
win 10
Drivers are actual.. Bios too
Tbh I think it was something in my game world/save that was causing the freezing. Possibly something the AI was doing, as the freezing resolved itself without any changes at all from me. All on an unmodded save.
I created a dump from task manager a while back on 4.0 HF1 when it froze one time, but never uploaded it anywhere as they are quite large.
For reference my specs are: Ryzen 9 3900x, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB RAM, default Windows 10 AV scanner.
I have this exact same problem with Linux.
Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor
16 gb RAM
Radeon 5600 XT video
Ubuntu
The problem began with the latest update to game.
Happens when I try to zoom sector map out past the base opening size. Doesn't just freeze the game - it hard locks my entire computer until I power cycle reboot it.
You should be able to manage with just 16GB, see what software you can close to free some up.
I hope we don't need more than 16GBs now, im on a laptop and SODIMM is not cheap.
"nope im not able to load your huge safefile anymore " to
what is a loading screen bigger than 20 seconds? not on my watch"
the "screen" freezes, while taskmanager keeps updating the work in progress
wich is a cpu usage between 8 to 9 %
and a worksave of 26 % with 9'063.7 mb
specs are
graphic card: Nvidia GTX Geforce 3060
Windows 10
Windows Defender
prozssor: 13.gen intel i7 13700k 3400mhz 16 cores , 24 logical cores
64gb Ram
im using 2 screens wich forced me to have a special Graphic card driver from nvidia
but all drivers are up to date and i have tons of free worksave
the issue started to appear maybe 2 weeks ago, im running this system since 2 months
it tends to occure on the second bording attemt after the dropp pots connect and the third bording state appears, while im in F2 vision on the target. could just be cause i like bording so mutch but its a strange coaccident that it allways seem to appear while im bording xD
oh and when i let the game run for the ammount of time that took me to write this comment, the sound disapears and clicking onto the game again does not make the screen of it reapear. had to manualy close the game now.
its just a very wild guess... but are some features of the beta 6.0 already in the core game?
since i like bording so mutch, i didnt come arround to notice that l and xl ships started clipping into each other within the last 2 weeks and im pretty sure that didnt happen earlier but that might just be me imaginating stuff
i dont know if this further information helps but im also using the thrustmaster 16000m hotas system, and now and than i realize that some ships fly to the right, with the same movement that other ships makes rolling wich is something i realy dont understand lol
Edit:
i reloaded the savefile a couple times now, and it is confirmed that this freeze appears while boarding.
the game did not freeze within the first 40 minutes till the next autosave.
ten minutes later i started bording again, my first crew got murdered, the second started fighting.
this time, the game froze in the moment, i stood up from my m class ships chair.
exactly in the moment when the npc pilot took place the game froze.
++++++
so it has to do something with the change of actions while bording. something about how the game renders objects while sitting in a chair or swapping through the camera modes
++++++
i dug a little deeper into it

"Is your riser cable pcie 4.0 certified or 3.0 certified?
If you do not know, go to BIOS set the PCIe to 3.0 not 4.0 or Auto. See how things going."
not jet tested...
