So just wanna call something out. Everyone saying "it is an excellent ship if fully upgraded" is absurd. If you fully upgrade the Katana it is still even MORE excellent at everything than crew size. You literally don't improve the Falx in any way over the Katana by upgrading it. When people talk about how a ship is good when you upgrade it - remember to compare apples to apples - is it good vs other fully upgraded ships? No. It is the same.
Yup, the upgrades dont really matter in comparision. Although fully ugpraded and with split mk4 engines, the Katan is probably so fast you can hardly even control it xD
I actually use terran engines on my Katanas, because the travel drive acceleration is actually really nice. Particuarly for capitals, its much more reliable in combat.
When you turn the katana you are a sitting duck because it cant accelerate, in a dogfight you spend all day basically immobile and pivoting, unless you adapt jousting tactics which is really crap imo. The falx can actually pivot and has the power to turn into the turn rather than just flying backwards.
Love jousting tactics in my Dragon with Taus!
I got no clue what you guys are doing with your Katanas xD
Mine is just fine at turning with combat thrusters, acceleration is just fine too. It takes 3 seconds to go to 300m/s, which is about the Falx top speed. The slow deceleration is true, but hardly a downside when the ship itself is two times as fast.
It helps to have some throttle control in combat, and predict the distance for travel breaking, but the speed is very useful otherwise, particuarly if you fly around with it as your player craft.
I guess they mean when comparing it to AI ships though. If you find the Falx too slow or too this/that when trying to do a certain thing, but upgrading it takes it away, then the problems go away. It's also true that upgrading a ship that has better stats will still have that edge over the Falx but the two facts aren't mutually exclusive.
Tbf the Prometheus also isnt really a warship as much as a heavily beefed up transport.
