Which X game is the best to start with?
Are any of the older ones good?

X3:TC is excellent, but this one is better. If your system isn't able to deal with X4, though, X3:TC is a super bargain right now.

Everyone is going to say the X game they started with is the best. The truth is, this one is the best.

X3:TC and AP are fan favorites for a reason, though if you play X4 first you may find yourself missing some features.
Aside from that though i've had thousands of hours of enjoyment from both, so they're definitely good if you want to start a little earlier in the series.

I actually started with the first so that'd be a pretty big claim. It was fun though.

i would say u should start at the beginning with x1 and work ya way thru the games that way. u will get the learn the stories and how the world has changed. feel free to skip x rebirth as it was terrible.

Foundation is the easiest to play hands down.
Best UI and best AI and everything is a cakewalk

X3 takes you ages to progress and you need mods otherwise its a menagment hell

Naaa. I started with X:bF 22 years ago (The first X part) and its not the best. But the story is nice.

IMHO X4, no question. All the previous X games (aside from Rebirth) were amazing, that's why the series has such a long term fan base, but X4 wears the crown now. IMHO you would do better to play two or three games of X4 from different perspectives rather than struggle to learn the different systems and foibles of two or three of it's predecessors, X games take a fair bit of learning. That should take up 1000 hours or so easy.

I've never played the previous games when they were released so i have no nostalgia to add in the mix. I've tried playing a bit but those are old and you can see it.

I suggest starting with X4 as flying the ships and see them in a station, getting out and in is quite nice.

Then you learn about the strategy in managing the ships and economy and those may be fun.

Maybe after this game I could get back to x3 because I have a better understanding of how that game should actually be played

Rebirth was amazing. I don't understand this craziness. To each their own I suppose.
