Aside from that though i've had thousands of hours of enjoyment from both, so they're definitely good if you want to start a little earlier in the series.
I actually started with the first so that'd be a pretty big claim. It was fun though.
Best UI and best AI and everything is a cakewalk
X3 takes you ages to progress and you need mods otherwise its a menagment hell
I suggest starting with X4 as flying the ships and see them in a station, getting out and in is quite nice.
Then you learn about the strategy in managing the ships and economy and those may be fun.
Maybe after this game I could get back to x3 because I have a better understanding of how that game should actually be played
