How to find the Khaak installation?
Well, Getsu Fune currently suffers from a sudden Khaak infestation in my game, so I assume that there is a nest there somewhere.
My problem however is that I cannot find it. I've been looking for over an hour now, and all that ever happens is the sector borders increasing, making the search even more tedious than it already is.
I already told my civilian ships not to go there, however this also results in my Shipyard there no longer getting supplied, so I HAVE to find it.

Hey guys, if you want to "cheat" a little, just try to plot a new station in the sector Khaak bothers you. Then take a look around in that window

You already do the right thing, search around the borders... Kha'ak tend to be far out.

No worries, once you have found their local Nest and have smoked them out the Map will return to a Normal Size.

Is there a limit as to how far the map will grow, or does it just go on endlessly, until I've found the Khaak? I actually wanted to continue the Terran plot, but this search is keeping me from it...

the map in fact is unlimited but those buggers tend to stay inside a radius of 900km around the center.

so, just setup some 350 scouts in all 6 hex corners and one of them will find it.

other than that.. the Kha'ak do come from their Station, so keep your eyes open to get a guess of the rough direction you have to take.

Also it's pretty easy to eyeball their hives yourself from some distance, further than long range scanner can reach. The structures are pretty distinctive and they are large. That's the way I found the "buggers" in my main mining sector anyway.

Somehow I'm getting the feeling I should have started looking when I saw the first Khaak near my shipyard... Two days ago...

That was actually the first thing I tried. This particular nest seems to be well hidden...

Gotta request factions looking for them too here... It puts the Xenon in a particularly bad position when they have a nest as there is no one looking for them. Or, at least exclude Xenon controlled sectors from the mechanic. :/ - By controlled I mean that they actually need to control a sector for that, once they loose the mechanic should turn back on.

If your already running or are ok with using a modded game. (Right now there is literally no reason not to anyway.) Then grab the amazing "sector explorer" mod. It lets you assign a super fast scout ship to cover an entire sector by starting in the middle and expanding outwards in a grind pattern. It can do this till it finds the station and while you do more important things. Basically it's just what "explore" should have been by default in the game.

Yeah, my game has some mods, in fact I'm not even sure those Khaak come from a nest anymore or just the Mod I installed to save the Xenon from Split annihilation.
Thanks for the tip though, I was already looking for my Nexusmod password to get the 1000km LRS and combine it with the spherical one...

afaik... xenon get really mad at kha'ak... its also way more tha sufficient to just send some gunboats to take care of a Nest if you know were it is.. Xenon do the same.. and for some magical reason i don't know SCA do exactly know were thay have to look...

Mind sharing or giving a hint to what that mod is? I may be interested.

The problem is that they don't have the ships to get mad at them in the first place. The only Xenon system in the left half of the Quadrant in my game, that hasn't been already overrun, or is in progress to be, by the split is Matrix 75B; And that is probably due to the I guarding it.

The Spear of Odin is also still devastating Savage Spur, right now attacking their Warf, which is also their last station there. None of the Xenon in Matrix seem to care though. I just hope it returns to Terran space, once it's done, so the Xenon can take a breath...

It's several mods and they are called "faction enhancer". No idea if they contribute to my Khaak problem, but I think they saved the Xenon from total annihilation.

E: Ok... Are Khaak travelling/Jump-driving between sectors? I couldn't find their nest in Getsu Fune, so either the Protectorate got there first, OR, the nest was 2 sectors away in Antigone Memorial... Which would be funy as I saw them as far away as in Savage Spur I.
I only found this one due to a satellite repair quest...

Khaak don't use gates. I've never seen a Khaak teleport right on top of a ship, unless it's in the vicinity of the hive; they even have a teleport effect.

Honestly, i've never seen khaak outside of sectors without a hive, under normal circumstances where the encounter mechanics don't apply. If a khaak encounter happens, then they might follow a ship, lets say one of our miners, to within the sector's borders, giving the perception they're spawning there. Khaaks can fly at 500m\s, so can harass anything indefinitely until destroyed, and a proper L miner can tank some of them for a very long time while trying to haul it back home.

However, i've seen miners go out the sector borders and mine there, then i guess they are subject to random encounters too, which would explain khaak in sectors with no hive. Mind, this is a bit speculative.

A good way to find hives in huge sectors or sectors with environments that limit vision is to set a fast ship on a flight pattern around the sector's border, go in as a passenger and set the camera to external pointing to the infinity. Then just wait.

I actually asked just that in a related thread - if this is the case, then my current working theory would be that the Terrans must have found it after I moved my miners out and got rid of the pests rather fast, either through it's destroyers or through the Spear of Odin, although I only know that it entered Getsu Fune, because it repaired at my shipyard, not when it returned from Savage Spur. However, the Spear of Odin would explain why I couldn't find it after such a short time...
The other theory is that they can use their Jump drives for attacks...

When Kha'ak spawn there is always a hive. The hive can be as much as 2 sectors away from the spawn, but there is one out there, somewhere.

The bugs are back in GF, and I can, again can't find a hive.... I really hope it's not in Savage spur I , since there is an I guarding that...
