Do you use the Syn at all?
This thing is god awful slow. Like 1/2 to 2/3 the speed of any other destroyer. I can't even imaging trying to use this for boarding ops. Even transports will just fly away. Given its INSANE main battery and Terran shields, I guess it just sits there and eats anything that gets near it. Of course nothing will because its slow af. The main battery is similar damage to the Rattlesnake. It splits the difference between the Rattlesnake (7km) and the others (10-11km) with a 9km main battery range.

So what do you use it for? I mean, a Rattlesnake can literally eat a solo K by just flying directly at it. An Ody or Behemoth has to be a bit more careful and maneuver around pecking out guns. Can the Syn just go toe-to-toe with a K? Why not just us a Rattler then? Unless you tell me a Syn can go toe-to-toe with an I, in which case, I'mma try that asap!

The Syn is basically an immovable glacier in that once it arrives it cannot be stopped. This means it is good for area control, defending, and tanking for larger, equally slow ships (like the Asgard). If you are gonna use destroyer(s) as the leader or sole ship of your operation and/or go xenon hunting I would opt for something else like the rattler because it can actually get places quickly and react to changing situations better. Oh, and the Syn is also really good at destroying stations for the same reasons above.

Thus, I use the Syn as an escort for my Asgard and as a complementary siege engine.

I modded my Syn with epic mods and it has good speed, travel speed, astonishing firepower and shields and capable to annihilate stuff very quickly. Also it looks like a real space battlecruiser.

The Syn was my main ride for over 100 hours or so. I capped over a hundred ships with it.

Git gud.

By "good speed" I assume you mean you've gotten it to go as fast as a Behemoth with Mk 1s? I mean even with a SPL Mk1 Engine the Syn only goes 116m/s.

It also has 50% more firepower.

I'm guessing in your mind top speed > everything.

You don't read too well do ya. Not sure why you're so flaming and toxic in every thread. But you should at least read the thread your flaming in. Jesus dude chill.

I love the syn but I love the asgard more and they take about the same amount of time to board and capture so I generally only cap syns when there are no asgards running around. Having said that, with mk3 thrusters and a whirlygig mod you can scoot around pretty good in a syn and I always use travel drive for boarding anyway so speed not too much of an issue.

The Syn and Rattlesnake are very much sitting at extreme opposites.
The Rattlesnake is a fast battlecruiser, delivering heavy firepower at high speeds but lacks in shielding and is highly vulnerable to missiles that strip its surface elements.
The Syn is a flying bunker, delivering heavy firepower while being very hard to take down and is the better choice if you know that you will take heavy fire. The Syn can survive it.

Only the Raptor and Asgard can go toe-to-toe with a Xenon I. Everything smaller should be careful to not get into range of too many of its turrets.

Those two ships are highly specialised and extra expensive compared to the Commonwealth destroyers. You can usually buy 3-5, if not more, Behemoths for the price of one Rattlesnake. Syn is even more expensive since you need to get your own shipyards going if you want more.

Dude that wasn't an attack of any sort. Your basis of all your posts seems to be "well xyz is faster!" - hence my post. Jesus dude chill.

Would that be sooo wrong ?

Speed is not everything, but if you are fast enough you can dictate the battlefield
Daddy Shark Jul 7, 2021 @ 11:25pm
There's more to it than simple top speed. Which really doesn't matter much anyways because the enemy is going to charge straight at you. They're just closing the gap on their own suicide by Syn faster.
blackphoenixx Jul 7, 2021 @ 11:39pm
Every destroyer except for the Rattlesnake is slow. Even the Rattie is only fast for its (very slow) class.
It doesn't really make much of a difference because as Star Trucker said enemies just charge you anyway.
The Syn (all Terran capital ships, really) has one of the highest turning rates for its class though which is a lot more useful in combat. And tons of firepower of course.

But yeah, mostly i just park one in front of a Xenon gate with a small fighter wing and forget about it until i need to destroy a station somewhere, but that applies to all destroyers.
I find them very boring to fly personally.

The benefit of using a Syn instead of a Behemoth or Odysseus is that it doesn't matter what comes through, the Syn just won't die.

I use a fleet of Syns to clear Xenon sectors in midgame. Eventually I get Asgards and the Syns become relegated to escort duty. Syns being able to have 200k shield unmodified is very important when attacking a station, especially out of sector.

I got 8 syn and 2 asgard with a ton of fighters and they destroy everything in there path way better then rattlesnake they die to easy i nly lose a syn here and there when i attack a station.
