Unlocking the black market guys on the stations is basically just to give you somewhere to mass sell your illegal black market goods. Once they're active, the station then adds spaceweed and spacefuel to their wares list.
if you find one that asks you to bring illegal goods and it is offering "unsactioned trade opportunities" as the reward... thats the one you are looking for.
so far, working as intended... if you want to become the Universe Drug Baron... you will have to work for that. ;)
I'd just like to reiterate that I spent like 4 hours scanning stations and came up with nothing. Scanning stations is slightly better now than it was when it was released. The little visual noise detector is much easier to guage than static volume. It is still not a good game mechanic.
They aren't going to shoot you. Probably. You dock at their station and trade just like anyone else.
I appreciate you guys trying to make this more interesting and a challange.
But i have a long list of problems with this particular approach unfortunately.
First of all, i dont intent to bash against you, its honest critique and i hope its seen as such. I know this series since X2 and i really love it. And because of that we need to talk.
It makes no sense in this context that every trading station is openly trading these wares, and it make even less sense that the price is fixed. If i have a black marketeer in Paranid space, i can just sell space fuel from the trading station to the marketeer and make enormus profits without having trouble with law enforcement, while the stuff from the actual factories is much more expensive. Furthermore there is no difference between legality in different sectors, And that just adds up with unlocked black marketeers and their demands. No bonus for increased difficulty. You can only sell a small shipment at once, but as soon it is delivered you can straight up sell again. A couple of ships with a well set repeating order can constantly sell in short order. So, you only really need one single station to unlock and sell just in small portions, The profit is still enormous.
One good thing is, that you can identify stations with black marketeers by following the other smugglers. That really is one aspect of it that makes it interesting. But the big downside is, the mission necessary to unlock the marketeer can be very, very hard to get. I have spend many hours just looking for these missions, and it has become the most annoying task imaginable in this game. There is no fun in it, really. I had like 10 stations identified and was flying forth and back to get a mission, after hours i had unlocked two. As soon as i realized that i only need one, which i found right in the beginning i was really disappointed in this whole mechanic.
I mean, there is no real economy behind this, isnt it? Everything else has logical dependencies, but in this case you have really made a lot of unlogical design choises.
At first i didnt understand it and avoided that whole thing for a long time.
Now i am just buffled about the way it is set up.
There should be an economy behind it, and there should be a reward dealing drugs where they are actually illegal. And finding these marketeers should not be such a pain. I mean we become some sort of mogules in this game and have this guy in our headquarter that is some sort of super secret agent making contacts to governments and spinning civil wars, but he cant support us in finding traders for recreational drugs?
Why dont you just take make these bars visible, and put the mission required to enable trade to the black marketeers? Make these missions more difficult or whatever, but dealing with these random missions? I really hate being forced to deal with RNG in an otherwise logical structured game. And reading most comments about this topic i feel like most people feel sort of this direction.
Then lets talk about illegal software, which perfectly fits the same topic. You dont allow players to sell it without even pointing that out, no its even totally misleading because the tooltip tells us we need just more rep.
Do you know what it feels like spending time following such hints that lead to a dead end? Just find a post later on that tells us we need a mod if we want to get rid of all these collectibles?
Something like this hurts your brand, seriously. And i have to use mods, because i disagree, and then i cant help you guys with finding and resolving bugs anymore which hurts the game. I really would like to contribute in such a way and play the game vanilla for once, but its impossible because these little things. And despite some of the mechanics just make me feel fooled. And i know you guys have limited time and resources, but the more important i think it is to talk and listen a little to the community. When the mayority of the comments seem that your customers arent satisfied, the product has to be changed. Even if the boss is stubborn... or whoever has the authority about this^^
And there are many little things that dont require much effort to make this whole thing way better.
Aside from the plot one, station black market always a random leak pickup of in some case part of a one timed mission.
Use EMP bombs, create more leaks might give more number of chances on getting such leaks.
Apart from black market and drug lording, looting off Xenon might serve you better in aquiring those inventory items.
Totally agree with your sentiment. You have put it quite well into words.
Based on maths and this post https://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=5133697#p5133697
Essentially each successive leak at a station has a higher chance of being a black market quest, as the quests are predetermined.
