[USELESS TOPIC] Syn style
I really like the Terran ship designs, and I really like the Syn design.

but one thing bothers me:

It really doesnt look like it belongs, compared to the rest of the Terran designs, its inconsistent.
its style is drastically different than the rest. it looks very cool in its own rights, but doesnt have any elements of other Terran ships (aka round pieces, slick straight lines with alot of painted hull visible, very little components/mechanical parts exposed ect...)

is there any lore that justifies it by any chance?

you missed the point that they are retiring it and ofc its not comparable to top of the line ships. Same with probably construction variations due to the agi attacks on earth and the destruction of the torus eternal

yea I did get that but still (plus they never say if its the Syn class, or just this particular Syn that was bound to scapeyard, right?). also the Osaka should be the locked design then as being the more recent one.
furthermore, aside from speed and anti fighter capability, the Syn is superior in every other way to the Osaka.

but yea I guess ill have to do with this. still kinda looks like 2 ships from 2 different factions to me.

not a big issue in any way though :)

Terrans consist of the Elite subfaction "ATF" to which the Asgard belongs. ATF and common Terran have a different style. It might be that the Syn is an ATF ship but as an engineer I am too artistically ignorant to be able to see things like design elements.

Just food for thought :D

As someone already pointed out, the Syn and Asgard are designs from a different organization called the ATF.

Way back in the X3:TC/AP days the terrans were made up of two factions: the Terrans and the ATF. The ships with the Japanese-style names and that general style were Terran. The ships with the Nordic names that bore a resemblance to star destroyers were ATF. Very different styles. Some time in between the gate shutdown and now the ATF was absorbed into the rest of the Terran hierarchy and their ships were generally retired. The two leftovers are the Syn and the Asgard as they are highly specialized siege ships with very long-range main batteries so while they are old and a relic of a prior age they don't have a counterpart and thus aren't retired along the other ATF ships.

The official Lore is that the ATF & USC got disbanded and merged into the Terran Protectorate after the Torus Event.

The majority of All AFT Designs (Asgard, Syn, etc.) were slowly phased out until only some Asgard and Syn remained in active Duty.

The Terrans technically do not build any new AFT Ships lorewise... but they do it regardless for Game purposes.

oh wow I had no idea about that. I was young when I tried multiple times to play X3 TC but never managed to get passed the complexity even after multiple attemps :)

that all makes sense now :)

also, quick quesiton:

The Syn design is a very old design. Looks litte bit like the XbF terraformer (later know as xenon) capital design - and the terraformer are build by the terrans.

I like the way the Syn looks, it's my favorite destroyer. ATF ships were always my favorite ones in X3, appearance wise.

Well, it's like when the remaining battleships were close to retirement. Over time they looked more and more out of place within their respective Navy.
