Report a translation problem
It's extremely possible, and you may be overthinking it. If the default setup doesn't work for you, you can go into the options and set it up the way you want it.
I use the same Joystick myself and it wasn't hard to set up at all.
If you are on Linux...then at the moment it is impossible. The SDL2 lib in the game folder is a version that mistakenly had the Logitech 3d extreme pro listed as a gamepad with gamepad settings. This made it impossible to set up and map the axis's and buttons properly.
If in Windows....it works perfectly. Just go to manage joystick controllers..add it then map it.
