Supercomplex vs smaller Stations
Hello Friends,

when you wanna produce a large amount of wares, are you splitting it into smaller stations or are you building one super complex to e.g. produces wares for ship building?

I've got a station building me advanced composites and advanced electronics seperately, and both produce whatever intermediate wares they need to produce the final product (the composites and electronics respectively) That way they aren't stuck buying graphene or quantum tubes etc. Plus, they sell the excess of the intermediate wares.
that's what I do. Plan what I want hte station to produce, and then build it to produce anything it needs to produce that ware
Edited:If your wanting to stockpile the wares you can just go into the logical overview and set the sell all but amount to something specific that will take the station a while to produce and it'll stockpile it til its produced more then the amount and sell til its back to the limit.

That was not my question.
I am currently thinking about a super complex which produces all components for my shipyard. Or i could split it into smaller stations.

Smaller and more stations means you can construct it faster and get the needed workforce faster. But it tends to clutter up my property menu more.

I like smaller station it bring the sector to be more alive.
It also faster to build and reach max efficiency while at the same time don’t reduce your game to a lagfest in it proximity

A big complex will give you the information how far your PC performance can reach even if you are fighting close by.

In X4 Foundations I am much less afraid about this point.

I personally go with supercomplexes. It's just easier and far less clutter all over your map. Once you figure out the perfect complex you just save it as a favorite and plop one down wherever convenient. Then you already know you need ~43 ore miners and ~27 gas miners to keep the joint running.

This also cuts out tons of faffing about with mining bases and distribution centers and all that. As long as you have both raw resources to be mined and a shipyard both within 5 sectors, it's a good place to setup shop.

it largly depends on what you think about when you say supercomplex.
My first save I used giant stations and in the later game stumbled over the ridicolous buildtimes. Want to increase one endproduct on the factory including intermediates? Here, wait an hour+. Oh you want to increase two or three? have fun waiting up to 5 hours depending on the wares.
When I decided to turn my PHQ into a giant shipyard including ten factories for every final ware including intermediate wares the problem became clear... almost 80 hours later and it is still not finished...
Just because of that I switched to small stations in my new save where I try to set up a chain.

I'd be happy to source the materials for my simple energy cell plant, the whole F'ing galaxy is at war with one another, and I can't find hull plates to save my ass. Let alone worry about a super complex lol!

Tried to go super complexes at first as well and ran into the same issues as the others here: The build times are rather long and the performace close to that station is just horrible.

So the next save I attempted to build smaller stations:
- One complex for every ware, which is needed in the shipyard
- several stations, which produce food and medical supplies (each station produced enough food/medial supplies for 50 Argon L Habitats) -> I saved this one as a blueprint
- claytronics
- several stations for the logistics / trading with the AI

I think, I would do it again, if I had to start from scratch again - just with one difference: I would make the PHQ to a construction complex which specializes in the stuff needed for terraforming and would give it MASSIVE amounts of storage space

Super complex is good if you can afford the time and money and have a nice location next to every resource you need. I built 2 shipyard supercomplexes just because they require basically no management and it's really easy to balance resources when they are all on the same complex management screen.

Also, I recommend a spreadsheet or a build planner for your station so you aren't building unnecessary modules. The balance between outputs and demands in X4 is really screwy.

I have two big stations in Getsu Fune capable of providing for all size shipyards with plenty of traders and miners. I have an Agricultural station which theoretically supplies the two superstations for it's workforce

Then i have another superstation based on one of the other megafactory out in Neopolis Fortune which is completely self sufficient.

I built a Forward base which imports just about everything and it'll be designed to resupply all size ships but not build. I'm continuing the Paranid civil war so plenty of opportunity to make some money for investors such as myself (Dal'l words...). everything is pretty much on autopilot as far as my empire goes. I am planning to toy with satellite stations tasked with importing specific goods for the megafactories.

As long as there is no way to speed up the building process of station modules, you basically have no choice to split up production into several modules. The build time for an all-in-one complex of a suitable size is way too high to of any use.

You have to think big. For a decent ship production and terraforming, you need like 200 hull part modules allone. But before you ask how to split up your stations, in my experience there is no best way. I tried several methods like splitting it up in T1, T2 and T3 wares or building a station for each ware, etc.

That seems kind of excessive. 4 hull part factories will build a Behemoth in under an hour, even at 0% production bonus. Just how many shipyard modules do you run? Guess you could always run seta whenever you are afk.

I build with 6 L and 4 XL Shipyards at the same time.
Currently i am running the Xenon Hell mod which requires me to have a freaking hugh amount of ships...
