High velocity research mission

Any hints on how to complete high velocity research mission?

I already have Pegasus Vanguard with Travel Engines Mk3.
I just rage-quit because I am out by 20seconds to reach the target.

I suspect I fumble way too much at the gate between sectors.

Here is what I do:
boost into travel mode (no autopilot)
come off travel mode (drift) before the gate,
struggle about 10 times to actually not fly through (sometimes it refuses to snap to the gate).
Then once out of the gate continue through the asteroid field (with random asteroids spawning right in front of the craft).

What infuriates me are the loading times of this game, 2 minutes between retries is not cool.

it is random wich course you have to do during that mission... you can repeat it as much as you like if you get a "bad" track.

you also are already applying the most usefull things to accomplish it.. it aparently is just the course that is bad for your ship.

How do I trigger track change? It seems I failed 3 times and got the same track...

Some of the angle's it can proc are absurd given highway placement and asteroid locations and pretty much impossible to do via player control- the only way I was able to beat it my last run was with the Autopilots impossible maneuvering ability at top speed.

Trying this 3 times before ending this mission, and finaly using ship+modifcation with more 8000m/s speed and it's more easy to do ! (no i have a yaki vessel with 14000 m/s :) speed) i'm using it to reach all position on the complete map and teleport to it.

Are you reloading the save? There is no penalty for failing, and if you fail and start the mission over again you should get a different course.

Yes I was reloading a save, but first couple of times I failed and it gave me the same course...

Have the ships been redesigned to make this B$ quest impossible?

I have Pegasus Vanguard with Mk3 travel drives but can not boost then travel, as soon as I engage travel drive the ship instantly slams on the brakes drops to 200 kmh then slowly accelerates.

If you use a travel drive, you don't turn it off in a race. You toggel the travel assist on and off to steer and keep the travel mode running all the time.

If you don't want to do that, you should probably use a combat engine sunce they don't have the ~3s delay to toggle to travel mode.

Alternatively - if you have the split expansion, you can get a split engine. They are the only race that has Mk4 engines.

Or if you have the boron expansion, get their scout (Irukanji). Way faster than the Pegasus.

Thank you, I have both just don't have enough rep with split to buy or unlock the engine. Boron I can get anything i want, completed that quest line.

I did it with the Pegasus with combat MK3 engine and thrusters first try, with (I think) more than 30 seconds to spare. Maybe it's easier with combat gear instead of travel?
