Is there a ship that can repair other ships?
If you have a large formation of a massive amount of ships is there 1 ship that can repair the ones with no repair drones after dogfights?

That is what Auxillary Ships like the Nomad are meant for.

If such a Ship is attached to a Fleet with the Order to Supply the Fleet and if the Fleet Commanders Resupply Settings are set to anything but OFF, the Fleet Ships will resupply and repair on their own after and even mid Battle.

Will it work smart? In other words will i need 2 so they repair each other or will 1 take care of itself as well?

the AUX Ships are XL Class... and they will have Repair Drones equipped most likely.

Means they can handle their wounds pretty fast on their own.

there is also an option to set them to work on a certain sector instead of attaching them to a fleet, but i'm not sure how that work yet.

Both a Carrier and an Aux can repair with the difference being the Aux is required for Capital ships. Starting off if you have invested in S/M ships a Carrier would be better, I found that my Capital ships repair themselves fast enough with minor damage. The Aux is nice for major damage although best hope it's not engine damage or you're SOL, ships must fly to the Aux for repair so you'll have to wait on Service crew/repair drones anyway.

One interesting note about an Aux, even if one of your Capital ship isn't in the fleet but sees an Aux in Sector it will go to the Aux for repair if needed. I haven't been able to test the range on this to know if it would go out of sector and for how many sectors it would cross if at all. I've just noticed it in sector.

they will only use an AUX that is in their Sector... no moving into an other Sector... even if it is just one Jump away.

But AUX are Cheaper then placing an Equipment Dock into Every System... so thats an affordable Way to get the whole Map Covered with AUX Ships... and they can even do the revisit known Stations Command and still perform their Repair Jobs.

so, only capitals would repair on an aux outside of their fleet? would fighter/gunboat or trader ship do this automatically as well?

An AUX can repair any Size of Ship Carrier only S and M as mentioned.

Though.. the Teladi Stork and Split Monitor are somewhat usable as a Carrier as well... the Nomand only shines in its dedicated Role and i have literally no experience with Paranid Ships.

The Atlas is baseline the best AUX of the bunch as early on acquisition.
Good armor and shields in addition to good mobility.

The Stork is to big while the Nomad has bad turret placement later on those might not matter much anymore but as first maybe even as a mobile HQ the Atlas is the best option.

ya but getting 20 rep on multiple locations can be a pain so i go ARG for the carrier anyway. Nomad seems like a good way to go for me.

AUX only need +10 Reputation.

Pain in the Bastu is +30 for all factions +20 is easy peasy you end up there in no time.

Just believe in yourself and you have it in no time.

As soon as the AUX is setup to service a Sector or a Fleet there is no difference to ship size when it comes to the AUX.
The deciding factor at this point is how your S and M Ships are setup something that is poorly documented to put it mild.

hmm, that is weird. i've tried setting a standalone AUX up in an enemy sector once, and i've got two lockdown fleets on two gates with damaged fighters before. the fighters won't go to the AUX for repair unless i assigned that AUX to their fleet. though i can confirm that the commander did go for a repair once. they were rather simple fleet with three destroyers and a group of fighters and gunboat set on interception.

i've also tried to set some AUX to a sector where my trader traffic is the heaviest so that hopefully any damaged trader i have would automatically go to it for repair, but no, they won't automatically repair the ship unless i told them to do it via right clicking.
