X4: Foundations

X4: Foundations

Statistiche:
i9 vs i7 vs i5 which one ?
So im looking into finally upgrading the good old cpu from a 6700k

I watched all the new benchmarks for the new gen 10 cpu's from intel and they all looked fairly close

i5 10600k vs i7 10700k and the i9

they where all getting nice FPS

But it seems everyone is just recommending getting the i5 10600k.

my issue is i play a lot of games that are CPU heavy for example

Arma 3, DCS, X4

That use a lot of cpu power for the AI/scripts where most games that where tested where GPU heavy non of them have tested games that are AI CPU heavy

so my question is would x4 have much benifit running i7 over the i5 in terms of performance

i understand normally the i9 will run better then the i7 then i7 better then i5

but where talking about price here in aussie

i5 10600k is 500$

the i7 10700k is 800$

the i9 is 1000$

I would like to mention i only run 1080p i couldn't care less as long as i get 60 fps

but would games that are CPU heavy like x4 (With pop mods) benefit (performance wise) to the point it would be worth spending the extra for the i7/i9 over the i5

would the extra cores/threads be that important ?

Been looking at upgrading myself given that we both have the same CPU.
if you can, get the i7 (which is the direct upgrade), the i9 is currently not in stock anywhere.
Personally I am waiting for Ryzen4000

Edit: also, the 10700k is 750AUD

PC gamer are recommending AMD for their mid range/budget builds but sticking with Intel/Nvidia for the high end at the moment. I'm not saying they are always right about everything but I think they are generally just about on the money.

https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/pc-build-guide-high-end-gaming-pc/
https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/gaming-pc-build-guide/

The issue with i5 vs i7 vs i9 etc is about number of cores and various hyperthreading/caching capabilities which the i5's have less of and the i7/i9's more of. Folk say high end i5's are good value 'cos a high end i5 has the same fast cores (but less of) and that you don't need more cores/hyperthreading blah blah 'cos games typically don't/can't use them.

But of course devs are doing what they can to spread out main game loops across available cores now and getting gradually better at it so this advice is perhaps getting less and less relevant as time passes.

I have a 17-8700k (with a 1080ti) and I notice X4 spreads out across all 12 logical cores (6 actual cores) although only maybe 30-40% if that on most of them and it hammers on one main core (presumably the main game thread). I get 90-110 FPS typically in clear space on ultra which goes down to typically 50-60 in stations and big asteroid fields and a bit less than that in worst case scenarios (such a big fleet battle with Xenon by a Xenon station surrounded with asteroids, I've seen it even going down to 15-20 in that sort of situation).

I see PC gamer are plumping for the new top end i7 spec (10700k) which has 8 cores (16 logical) which is two cores more, four more logical, than my venerable old 8700k, presumably 'cos they feel this is the current sweet spot for high-end gaming on account of the extras you get with an i9 aren't really used much in games, and I'd venture that this maybe won't massively help on the main X4 game loop front but it will help a bit, and every little helps as they say.

The Intel Core i9-9900KS is available worldwide for $599 (£549, AU$899). That's a pretty sizable jump over the Intel Core i9-9900K, which you can find for $471 (£479, AU$799) or even the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, which is available for $529 (AU$551, AU$809). It should be noted, too, that AMD's chip has four more physical cores – even if Intel's single-core performance is still ahead of AMD.
9600 or 9600k is still good in that times. 10400 and 10600 doing similar job with more threads.

Also Ryzen R5 3600. R5 3600X and R7 3700X are good and cheaper option
with B550 Motherboard you can upgrade it with Zen 3 model after release.

Iam using i9-9900K since a year now and iam very satisfied. CPU runs with Asus Hardware. Ive been using Intel CPU since I play games and Ive never had a broken CPU yet, except the Pentium back in 94 with "just" the calc error, if someoe remind.this.

For everyone who wants to have a chuckle...

I am personally running the Game on an AMD FX-8350 with a 3GB GTX 1060 and 32 GB DDR3 Ram.

Not to mention the good old mechanical Harddisk.

are you using your pc as a bbq while you're at it? (said the guy with the i9, a cpu laughed at for its thermals)

I have a similar setup, AMD FX-8350, 4GB GTX 1050, and 16GB RAM. But I do have X4 on a SSD. :)

As for OP, I would suggest buying whatever processor is fastest in the $150 to $200 USD range, then get a good motherboard and as much RAM as you can afford to go with it. I have never seen a good reason to buy a $500 USD processor when that same processor will be $150 USD soon anyway.
