exaple:
you have a builder that is stuck at building a docking area, be it because the construction storage lacks materials, funding, etc... or you just want to reconfigure the Build Plan... what it is does not matters.
1.) open the build screen
2.) select the module your builder ship is stuck at / working on
3.) delete it and everything after from the buildplan
4.) save the plan (confirm)
the ship will now recall its drones and leave your construction site.
**be noted that you will have to design a aborted construction project again, Materials for partially build and aborted Modules will be refunded into your Building Storage
Are you going to fix this bug with a patch at some point?
As said, to cancel a Build (a whole Plot and/or Station) you need to remove every already planned Module.
The Save Build and Cancel Buttons are only active to Save or, like mentioned, Cancel the changes in a Buildplan you are currently editing.
1. When I hire a builder to build up a station, the builder sometimes stops partway through, and sometimes never even goes to the station in the first place, even if they are in the same system, and I still get charged.
2. The builder cannot be interrupted while building by any command of mine for any reason, and the only way to get the builder to stop is to literally track down and click on each individual element in a potentially large and complex structure within the actual layout.
As I mentioned earlier, I can't find an option to delete the items directly on the queue on the right, so I have to track down and click on each individual element in a potentially large and complex structure within the actual layout. It doesn't seem practical.
2. buy your own builder though it's some 13-14M credits I know, otherwise it's not too much either. Always doing that.
-> then you can stop the "bugged" builder by canceling his orders directly -- at least I think so, haven't tried that....
there is only 1 reason why a hired builder will not reach the construction site, it eventually just got intercepted, disabled and/or destroyed by enemies.
when a build stalls how ever there is still only one reason:
1.) the construction site ran out of materials
this can happen when the traders approaching your station are intercepted them self or your site is not willing to buy materials at the price the traders want to sell them.
both cases are intended behavior.
in this case all i can do is to request as much informations as possible, how to reproduce it as reliable as possible and, should it be save presistant, an affected savegame.
the fastest way to get everything onto the Desk of the related Dev would be the usage of our support mail.

Attempting to cancel the orders directly doesn't do anything, and that's the problem.
on the OWNED constructor? I thought you have "hired" one, that one you can't cancel his orders obviously as he doesn't belong to you(r fleet)...
I cannot cancel build orders on the builders I own, and that is the main issue.
No idea, sorry.
edit:
@eMYNOCK:
I do understand why abborting the build process in the build menu is not possible, as you would have to roll back anything, also you would have to store any partially build modules etc...
though f.e. what the game behavior when the constructor get killed WHILE constructing?
=> The construction just gets on hold.
Why wouldn't that be a problem, when you could stop/cancel the constructor - that is only THAT constructor, not the BUILD PLAN ITSELF?
