Does it matter which ship yard / wharf you build?
For the available ship types? I wanna know before I invest time and money.

So can I build ALL the ships I want at every wharf / ship yard? Or is it restricted to the specific faction ships?

You can build any ship as long as you own the blueprints and you build them in S/M or L/XL shipyard. If don't own any blueprints you can go buy or steal some (you probably know this lol).

It's been a while since I last played but the FOP was my best customer early so you should probably invest in S/M FOP ship blueprints to start with. Fighters and scouts/couriers were in high demand by the FOP but that may have changed since I last played. After war breaks out though other factions will buy more and all will buy a lot.

Thanks! It'll take some time before I can afford a yard but still.

How is this handled? Can they just buy the ships and the factory produces them? Or do I have to produce them and mark them as "for sale"?

when you have all the needed Blueprints for Equipment, the Ship Hulls and other Equipment (satellites, Drones, etc.) the AI will autonomously Order Ships from your Shipyard/Wharf.

You (as the big Boss) are only responsible for making sure the Station has all it needs to buy Building Materials and is able to build what the AI wants.

You will need Argon Ship Hulls, Argon Engines, Argon Shields and so on if you want to sell your Argon Ships to them...

You are ofc allowed to mix and match what ever Components you have Licenses for to build your personal Ships... the Races how ever prefer certain Loadouts that require specific Blueprints.

Right. Great. I'm looking forward to that but that's still a couple of millions to go. Next are the trade licenses. I feel they're very important.

indeed they are... not are they totally immune to weapon fire (unlike satellites) but they will also simply keep the trade offers you get from discovered Race Station always Up2Date.

Side effect... a Station that Sends you Trade offers will reveal its position on your Map.

Something my eMYNOCK didn't mention about ship building is that you can restrict WHO buys your ships. That's very useful if you're backing one faction over another. It doesn't get you any faction respect but it does stop an enemy faction, or one you plan to attack later, from getting stronger through you. If a faction can't build ships it won't survive long. You don't have to help if you don't want to.

Personally I sold to everyone and fought no one. I was a peaceful capitalist lol. And I sold my ships for the maximum price allowed by the game and sold a bunch. I loved to just sit on one of my stations and watch the money roll in. If I had more time I'd have another go at it right now.

Unlike X3 nobody is shooting my satellites, even not the Xenon. Bug or feature?

some mixture of both...

Pirates don't shoot them because they don't hold anything of value... and Xenon/Kha'ak don't target them because they are no threat at all.

Though, i personally lost the majority of my Satllites that are monitoring the Kha'ak Hive in one of the Matrix Systems to the "locals" (Kha'ak)... can't remember its original Name because i had it renamed a very long time ago.

Hint: once you have your shipyard set up you can build ships for yourself. If you aren't getting NPCs ordering ships, you can always build a bunch and then sell them to those NPCs. You do not get as much money, but it does help you generate cash to buy additional blue prints. It takes around $2 Billion to buy all of the blueprints you need.... this is the current "end game" content.

Over all, the shipyard / station complex system is lightyears ahead of X3

It's really a great feature,
though I'm nevertheless hoping it will get fleshed out even more.
Atm it's only usable for really small factory complexes, plain ones (not mutli-level ones I mean).
When trying to build bigger and/or multi-level you can barely see anything and the "auto-snap-in" feature will mostly fail (at least to where you want to put something in).
Also The Copy/Paste feature, great in theory, is problematic as you can't ROTATE (f.e.) the modul group before pasting it into the blueprint, which can result in not being able to put it even down when using f.e. peers or shipyard (as these need not-blocked place infront f.e.)

I rage quitted twice while building that one. FINALLY after hours of hours I have done it!
And it has room for more - but I will never touch it again!.....

((Wenn ihr das als Blueprint braucht (Beispiel für extremes Lagging oder Schwierigkeiten beim Copy/Paste oder generell) kann ich das gerne hochladen! ;-)))
