there is no real benefit from using seta except it feels like everything runs faster, truth is you waste way more time literally doing nothing while in SETA... time you could spend to do missions, trade or just fly around while your station gets build.
this may be a harsh example... but it is how i personally feel about SETA.
Well that is appreciated to get a response from a Dev. You guys know how SETA works better than anyone. So.. to be clear.. there is no actual negative side effect to using it. No attracting Xenon or any weirdness that wouldn't normally happen in regular speed? It did say something about no known side effects in the description.. but it also led me to believe there might be.
that is sadly not fully correct as you really only speed up the time... not the speed of the ship.
everything will be speed up.
Depending on the size of your ship the tactical sound option would be to pulse boost or travel drive instead.
SETA is and remains a poor hack that does compress time this way you can't get a tactical advantage you just conserve real life time.
If you not familiar with boost or travel drive pulsing give it a try i is worth it.
apologies.. this detail slipped through my vision.
but to clear that question about "side effects".
those are meant to be ingame (lore) health related and the possible effects the micro singularity of the SETA could have on organic lifeforms... nothing to do with xenon.
Gotcha. Thank you. I had to be sure right. No attracting enemies just cause I want to build stations faster lol
That is cheesy.. I want to use SETA to accelerate station building in real-time so it doesnt take 30 days to build the means to support a wharf.
Downside for me is i've continued to play this run through mostly in SETA mode.. now this has made the game in normal mode almost unplayable. It makes you realise just how slow the whole game is! and it raises a lot of questions, the main one for me is why does everything have to take so long? unless its in red then its gonna be slow i'm finding...
i'm sticking with it for now though, as it was my idea to do a non fighting run through and see how i fared... 500+hrs in and i'm doing ok...
Upside to SETA? is there one? yes indeed get your fighters & anything that isn't trading to dock, make a save then turn on SETA and go to bed!, your so much richer when you wake!! or dead ....
auto save can help there too but you'll have lost nothing anyway, maybe its my game play experiment but i've not had any mishaps so far..
Hope this helps clear a few things up
In the older X games, SETA was pretty much used for what is now 'Fast Travel'. You could use it to Speed through the simulation, but there's plenty to do so, why?
On the other hand, I have to admit I've left the game running overnight or through the day while I'm at work to let credits build up or complete some drastically time-consuming thing.
And it's also nice for leaving the game running all night to make some cash.
I use it for building stations ONLY!!!!
ONLY WANTED TO BE SURE IT WOULDNT BREAK THE SIM, OR CURB IT UNNATURALLY IN XENON FAVOR.
you brought up the perfect example on how SETA works... in this case flight behavior when in SETA.
what you describe... fighters going wonky... etcpp.. is related to the skips the seta causes (the increased sim speed).
skipping script parts means less to calculate.. means faster sim speed but also means.. well, this ship isn't supposed to crash into the Asteroid but it does anyway because the evade part of the movement script was (this time) skipped.
