1. If you are solo'ing thus far and you got this mission - you're in the same predicament as me
2. Go to any wharf and buy the cheapest ship you can find. Remember to assign pilot manually when outfitting it. Or send your crew member to this ship and promote him to captain-i didnt try the latter. Just chose a Pilot as part of outfitting!
(THIS IS YOUR PILOT! HUZZAH!)
3. Add the ship to your squad.
4. Fly to the station that wants a Pilot
5. Tell the cheap boat's pilot to dock at the same station as you
6. Once he's docked - Comm in to work here (the option will appear if he is docked at the same station where the mission requires a Pilot).
Really cumbersome and irritating quest especially considering there's no information on how to acquire a pilot
Key point for future people is you need to bring up ship info and right click crew member and select "Comms" instead of transfer. It doesn't matter what their assignment on your ship is, only the star ratings matter.
It's quite an obscure mechanic to be honest, and could use a bit more mission guidance.
Yeah, it is indeed obscure. We do have this on our radar though, and I hope we can de-obfuscate it for 4.0.
I have no idea why this needs to be this confusing, the requirements aren't unreasonable, just the fact that the game does absolutely nothing to even give you the slightest indication of what you need to do is really problematic
