Leveling pilots by their AI commands may have different effects. For instance a Pilot on a Small Trader using distribute wares will level into a 3 star Manager. A fighter pilot in a fleet or using a AI induced combat is supposed to level Pilot skill. Oh and a Pilot you are manually trading but has a pilot on board will not level much at all.
Good to know, thanks. I've never seen a trader with a 2 star seminar I spent hours just going to stations talking to traders haha.
So for my traders what do I need to have them do to level piloting
Yeah i've seen the same kind of thing so I get ya. Alright i'll look into the distribute wares thing and see what I can do. Appreciate the help
Yoinked him real fast.
But I don't see any of my fast-levelers getting their full 2-stars for a long time. It takes at least a few days of constant trading.
Mining also appears to be fixed now. I'm now getting pilot experience trickling up from automated sector mining. It's slow, leveling but doesn't seem a whole lot slower than leveling via trading. It kinda looks about the same now, actually.
For those that don't know, every pilot/crew NPC has 15 levels, three per star, and the system works by rolling a dice (something like a 1D10000 for reasons that will become clear) whenever a pilot performs a "rollable" action (such as make a trade or shoot down an enemy).
The table in question indicates that the % chances of levelling up are inversely proportional to the pilots current level like so.....
Pilot Average Percent
Skill Rolls Chance
{2} = 2.45 (~40.8%)
{3} 1* = 4.68 (~21.4%) [n= 7]
{4} = 11.02 (~9%) [n = 18]
{5} = 32.03 (~3.1%) [n = 50]
{6} 2* = 66.42 (~1.5%) [n = 116]
{7} = 138.00 (~0.72%) [n = 254]
{8} = 362.78 (~0.28%) [n = 616]
{9} 3* = 776.76 (~0.13%) [n = 1392]
{10} = 2148.75 (~0.05%)
{11} = 4403.12 (~0.02%)
{12} 4* = 10499.32 (~0.01%)
{13} = 25192.12 (~0.004%)
{14} = 64724.24 (~0.002%)
{15} 5* = 142095.19 (~0.0007%)
The n numbers where added by the poster to indicate the average number of rolls required to progress at each level according to the % chances shown.
This shows exactly why it is so hard for traders to get from 2* to 3*. 2000 trades is a lotta trades.
By far the fastest way to level up pilots is to put them in fighters and have them in nearly continuous combat (for example have a fighter swarm camping a Xenon gate). The reason is that they get a roll for each kill they make but they also get one for an "assist" albeit at a reduced % chance. Therefore they are getting to roll for a level up many times more frequently than a trader or miner.
Solid advice Ill look into that as well many thanks
Good information to kow thanks a bunch
Now I can focus on playing the game rather than messing around with micromanagement :)
