Not really, it's a far from being complete and i don't see any evidence that this is going to change. With no man's sky you have a active team that is dedicated to making the game better.

I've not played NMS since a long time so I'm not sure, but they are not the same game style at all. It's in space, but that's all
They are very different games to compare. I have both. No Mans Sky is simpler, polished, and everything can be done playing on a gamepad with your thumbs. No Man's Sky is a great casual space game for console players.

X4 can be a fun game after you learn how to play it but learning how to play X4 is like teaching yourself microsoft Excel with no references or help you just smash your head against the keyboard until you figure it out. Most of the questions you google about X4 will be old likely from Dec 2018 and no longer applicable. You will be angry with the AI, you will be angry that the lowest settings still run like ♥♥♥♥ compared to other games. X4 will make you angry and frustrated but its a much more rewarding experience in my opinion.

I get bored of NMS very quickly as it still seems like your just running around harvesting resources for the sake of it, and have no real impact on the galaxy, and the factions in the game don't really do anything. It has its merits but its just meh to me.

I like X4 because I can directly or indirectly affect the entire map by where I choose to build stations to produce wares that the factions buy off me to make more ships or make my own ships to kill xenon and take their sectors, or help the other factions fight the Holy Order etc. It feels much more 'alive' and like I have an impact than NMS has or ever will.

That is simply a big lie. It doesn't matter if you like or not X4: the game changed so much in 1 year...almost another game.

To answer the OP: the two games are so different.
X4 has a really economy: everything in game is produced by the player or the AI. If you destroy a few stations, you can cripple the economy of whole races.
Also you can conquer sectors in X4 and destroy other races.
It's a very complex game and to learn to play it you have to do a lot of reaserch and experiments.
Definitely a game for a restricted number of players.

If you like NMS or not it doesn't matter: this data can't help you understand if you could like x4.

Egosoft is as dedicated as a team can be. Just take a look through the patch notes since release - it's quite a list.

OP: They are two completely diffrent games. For me, X4 wins in the long run.

Ok. Almost another game? How so? What change was so revolutionary that made that so? Less bugs?

Love it or hate it NMS made a 180° entirely. In the span of 1 years 5 months (this game's current run), NMS had already added:

Foundations Update:

Improved Visuals
Owning Multiple Ships
Base Sharing Online
New Vehicles - Exocraft
Permadeath Mode
Build Vehicle Race Tracks
Ship Specialisations and Classes
Shop/Traders
Double the Base Building Variety
Multi-tool Specialization and Classes
New Weapon Modes
Photo Mode
Discovery Menu

Atlas Rises Update:

30 hours of branching story and deeper lore
Procedurally generated guild missions
Much deeper interstellar trading
Star Systems have varying wealth, conflict and economies
Overhauled Space combat controls, weapons and AI
Portal stargates enable quick travel
Terrain manipulation for more complex bases
New farming and mining interactions bring increased depth
Increased biome variety and Rare exotic biomes
Analysis visor & discovery improvements
Galaxy map and many other UI improvements
New S Class ship designs
Low altitude flight and the ability to crash your ship
Crashed Freighters to salvage on planets
Joint exploration

To a game that didn't have any of that. Almost as if they added everything that X4 has now, in the span of 1 year 5 months. Plus a bunch of in-planet activities, and constant bug fixes. Now THAT is a whole new game.

I don't like NMS. It's not my thing, but in terms of progress Hello Games is wiping the floor with Egosoft. Hello Games had 15 employees when making NMS, and gained 10 more throughout this process, so currently 25 employees. Egosoft has 20 employees; so basically the same situation.

And what's more. NMS hasn't had a SINGLE paid DLC, at least to my knowledge, but I certainly can't find any. Everything in that 1y5m and until now has been added added FOR FREE.

What has Egosoft added for free? Bulk Crew transfer, and a HAT questline.

Oh and Ventures. How could I forget.

Lol.
What a strange question.

Yeah, I know. Just mentioned the ones added within 1 year 5 months after NMS released, which is the same time Egosoft has had since X4 released.

NMS is a themepark game, X4 is more a simulation of a universe, sandbox. Dont think you can really compare them, onthy thing they have in common is that htey are in space.
Also, for me personally NMS is a boring pointless game.
How soon everyone forgets how no mans sky launched lol. But NMS is really good game now, after years of polish. But they had to win that back.

X4 is good game I play these games way more than NMS.

But from past history it will never be as polished as NMS is now. Mods usually fix X games.
