AI not shooting its main guns - Am I missing something ?
Currently trying to take down a Xenon Defence Platform, but the one of my destroyers aren't shootings its main guns - actually none of my AI captains are shooting its main guns - nothing I supposedly do seems to help making them shoot at all - their turrets are working fine, but the main batteries just wont fire :(

Fire the captain....then space him/her. Set an example. That worked for me. j/k

There may be an issue with Defense platforms, my destroyers were showering fire, I didn't check to confirm they used main guns as well.. just assumed. I do know I couldn't get the L Plasma on a carrier to fire at a Defense platform which is why I suspect an issue since it worked on Stations.

I have been on a destroyer that's fired it's main gun on a Defense platform under construction though, it may be because there's just a dock and the issue doesn't manifest till built beyond that.

Its odd though, I can see Argon destroyers using their main guns - now attacking a different defence station, which they have no issues using their main guns on :S - guess it might just have been related to that one defence platform, idk :/

Are they too close to the station or fly above or blow? you can try move they away (~12km) and re-order attack. I think just some targeting problems.

They were about 8km out and were already facing the station - I did try to re-order them to attack - nothing happend (diddnt try moving them 12km out however), my carrier even went full suicidal and straight up rammed the defence station.. which shortly after resulted in its explosion due to heavy fire.. lol

Did you check if their main guns are still there? Enemy can blow them up and only way to fix them is with bad repair drone ai or visiting shipyard.

Yeah I checked - The defence station afterwards they were able to shoot at.

Same problem here, attacking a Xenon station:

1 Destroyers (leader) + 5 Destroyers (subordinate) mimic order coordinate attack.
None of them are firing their main guns (All are Behemot class - distance to target 8km)

All turrets are firing but no main gun (they're fully fonctionnal, I can shoot manually with them)

that's not a new issue
the problem is in sector movement of the npc-captains.
unless you use the formations and set the npc-caps up yourself they will probably turn sideways, often it feels they do everything they humanly (or alienly) can to not point their main-battery at their targets.
which is one script/ai-improvement i defenitly want, especialy with more battery dedicated ships (or glass cannons) this can get quite annyoin.
happens not just with stations, but pretty much every ship. similiar to how caps will have a nightmareish time catching up to a fleeing ship and keeping it locked down.

Ships spinning around helplessly for no reason instead of staying on target. I call it the "ballerina tactic", only the most advanced X captains have achieved this move.:lunar2019crylaughingpig:

or maybe they skipped the class that was teaching the purpose and best usage of turreted weapons. :lunar2019grinningpig:

My Asgard is NOT USING hes beam nor 2 main batteries to ( In system and OOS ) and its useless in hands of AI ( wasted so much of resources, time and effort to built XL station ) - AI cannot use it ( 5 STAR pilot ) and when i use it myself im bored to death because he is slowest ship ( maybe besides of Raptor bu he can be slow - he got 10x more turrets and 100 ares class interceptors around ) is there any mod that make AI do what they should be doing ???

I saw a Terran Asgard blowing up a Terran Syn comrad while the Asgard tried to shoot a Xenon fighter with his deat star laser....
And the Asgard totaly ignored the "Xenon I" which was about ~15-20km away

And i hoped that Asgard will help me with this horrible defence platforms ( horrible because you need to stay away of them and shot billion large plasma at them and babysit you ships to not move even 1km closer ) but no, Asgard dont use hes beam and like you said when he does - he doing this wrong :( , bad investment and tedious build because you need terran resources mostly and nobody besides terran made them ( because nobody buy them )
