However... in trying to figure this out, I did read one thread that said something about placing two bombs, and just leaving; a cutscene would take care of the rest. This "Might" be the Clamp thing.
I also... Vaguely... recall two objects on the wall as you're leaving the Bubble Room (I guess you might call it); those may be the clamps. Place bombs there and just leave. But at this point, I'm really just guessing!!!
When you enter the monument, you see a 'locked' door ( fanblades + shield) to the right - ignore it for now and go to the left first. While you navigate through the maze you'll be opening that door. When it's unlocked, go in there and you get to the clamp part. Look around well in that room before you leave!
Hope that helped!
Doh!... sorry... I just re-read your post; that FAN I mentioned is the ForceField you mentioned. But you're on the right track. There are 4 sections; it sound like you need the last one. I think (maybe).... when you first entered you go left (the ForceField is to your right); at this point the one straight ahead might be open to you now.
Again... I'm mostly guessing, and trying to remember!!!
THE MAZE PART SUCKS!
Seriously. I got bored with "find the locks that open doors on the other side of the room" type puzzles in the early 90s, and it feels really out of place in a game like this. The data vaults are in the same ballpark, but at least those are optional and have a bit of a chill spacewalk vibe to it, so I don't mind those too much. But this maze just made me want to punch something.
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. Really enjoying all the non-mazey parts of the game though.
