Holy Order of Paranid just steamrolling
Is there a way to stop this from happening? Some game setting that will make the Argon Federation actually defend its borders? There's a huge fleet of destroyers currently roaming around Argon Prime and they seem to be taking absolutely no action against them whatsoever.

As far as I can tell, your only option is to get involved. PAR have a self-sufficient economy which plays well into how the AI does aggression.

Basically it's a numbers game, and PAR will have the numbers.

To be fair of all the vanilla factions HoP has the best go of it usually. They have a very compact set of sectors that have very nice funnel entrances that make it easy to defend and basically no back doors(unless Xenon). The sector setup also allows them to have a wharf within 1 jump of all borders that touch other factions. Usually in my games they are the first NPC faction to push the Xenon back from HoP space if not completely destroy them. They are on the highway so can get to the heart of most other faction pretty quick. They also have some really great vanilla ships and loadouts compared to other factions. The only time I have seen differently was a game were the Xenon randomly hit them hard and fast at the start and smashed the wharf. They still managed to push them back but the Xenon bought enough time for the other factions to catch up and the game turned into a very long stalemate cold war with the occasional hot spots on the borders but no real footholds ever held. It was.. VERY.. good for business..

What this means though is they usually get on war stance first, relieved from Xenon pressure first, and roaming sectors with patrol fleets first. They are at war with literally everyone though so those patrols begin stomping down on any industry they blunder into. This is the "swing" point in the game for HoP. If you stand back and do nothing they will forever be stronger than those they face, if you step in the other factions will eventually catch up fleet wise and have no trouble containing them. At the end of the day the HoP are on a timer. Either they get out and smash everything enough to be comfortable in expansion or they take to long and slowly get squeezed tighter and tighter by all organic life in the galaxy.

I would suggest getting some trader/miner in the surrounding sectors asap with trade order to not interact with HoP stations. This will GREATLY help to even the playing field as HoP wont target your ships giving the losing NPC faction a guaranteed supply line. You could also sell the losing NPC factions some war ships(for best results give them ships while in sector and HoP ships visible... If you do it out of sector im told the sold ships disappear eventually once off your map). Eventually though the player has to decide what to do with them. You can be friendly with everyone in this game but sooner or later the HoP will be crushed to irrelevance or kill your allies, much like the Xenon.

Do the paranid plot and choose war... the steamrolling will stop :)

there is no steam rolling, they'll stop it at some point, I'm 400 hours innto my 3.0 game and while HOP did beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of Argons and Antigonides in the beginning they now have slowed down they are expanding into xenon territory and sometimes they get into argon space or ANT space just to blow some stations up ! but nothing very significant !
It's also good to install mods that add empty sectors koz the factions will expand into them if they loose some territory !

Just had a HOP Rattlesnake Marauder harass a trade ship, that's interesting. Piracy has no friends I guess, might have to go acquire that, ally or not. I'm high rep with everyone now, I wonder if that influences their behavior since they aren't invading argon space. Haven't done the Paranid plot, at Trading station in the split plot.

You have a couple options. Full out war, destroy HOP yourself. Help Argon economically. IE keep the shipyards full of of supplies. Join the war, but only do missions that dont involve fighting HOP. IE deploy satillites, mines, laser towers. Do base building missions. And instead of doing the bare minimum. IE if it says have 12 turrets. Put 50 missile turrets on it, plenty of cargo storage. load it up with drones, add a ship repair module, then put the 12 turrets on it. So now they have a fully functioning base of operations in the fight.

You could also hurt the HOPs economy. IE buy up all the hull parts, and keep buying all the hull parts, so they cannot make any ships. When ANT or ARG attack a HOP station, be there to hack its defenses

I did this, and the TEM went on a rampage... Taking over PAR territory.

I just want to build factories peacefully. I'm not interested in any of this war nonsense. How do I turn it off?

So ignore the war then. Just because they are at war, does not mean you have to be at war. only one you have to be at war with is the Xenon.

But it sounds like you want the argons to do good. but don't want to fight HOP yourself. And like I said before, support the Argons by keeping the shipyards full up. That will allow you to just build your factories in peace.

You can even go as far as join the war of ARG vs HOP. they will have you undock and shoot an un piloted ship. This act does not put you at war with HOP. However it does give you missions like build defenses. You can make good money building these stations for Argon. It helps them with the war. And you don't have to fight yourself.

This.

If you truely dont want to fight the HoP starting the war quests and building some above standard stations for the ARG would be your best bet for long term peace in the region. You cant make them stop killing each other but you CAN make the odds evened out so its a slapping stalemate.

they tend to wipe out the xenon near them with ease and start picking on the argon. I even wiped out the xenon in my game ie they dead faction in my game. I just bought/built about 100 destroyers and just sent around destroyed all the xenon stations and the factions near by came and claimed them. I had to claim a few sectors for my self since the ai was not claiming them.

War is good for business though, can't have one without the other.

Oh, i bet that was a cloaked SCA ship or some shenanigans, HOP don't use split stuff afaik. Shoulda scanned it to know exactly what it was..

If you listen to paranid when he talks abauth war, they have no interest of going after lesser races. They just want them to be weak.

I didnt see them attacking anyone more that 1 border away from their sectors.
Vex Werewolf May 13, 2020 @ 7:16pm
Oh, I forgot to mention, I can't just ignore it because their fights are drifting close to my stations and the friendly fire is damaging them.
