Anything above will repair itself with enough crew on board. More crew will speed up the process, and the better the crew level is, the higher the percentage of repairs will be. Think only all-5-star will repair to 100%, others will stop around 80-90%.
With repair drones I had mixed outcome, especially on M-class ships. On frigates they are often too slow to react, because M ships die really fast when damage is already going to hull. So they are too late and the ship is dead before drones could start repairs.
And I'm not sure if repair drones can repair M ships at all, because the crew already does that....
The only situation I have seen repair drones doing their duty reliably is with damaged destroyers - the drones seem to repair damaged turrets, whereas the crew repairs hull.
I wouldn't rely on drones anyway, because they trigger all kinds of docking issues and block fast movement, especially when IS.
Edit:
Forgot to mention:
- Repair dones can only repair the own ship (stupid design decision), so they won't repair wing members
- sometimes they are set to 'inactive' in the loadout menu, double check that setting if they are not launching (had that with defense drones)
only carriers and supply ships will allow repair of docked ships, supply ships can repair bigger ships that can't dock with carrier.
