I have walked all over the station and cannot find the darn thing.
Does anyone know of a way to reset this marker when in "walking" mode?
This is false, there is no guiding line to it even after exiting the elevator.
I got it to work on mine finally. What I had to do was undock, and then I went to the Specific Docking platform that was highlighted by the marker, and I requested and unrequested docking until that specific dock was the one where they told me to dock at.
Once docked there, the interface unit was highlighted for me and I was able to pick it up.
When I docked, I can see only 1 seconde the objective on the floor. I docked and undocked until I was able to look under the ship while docking where the unit is (it was for me next to the rear right corner of the docking pad number 4).
I hope it will help the next...
The guide line does not work. I was able to find the objective by flying around in my ship looking at my map to find the approximate location, then landing and taking the elevator and clicking on the yellow bold text location, then walking around with my head looking at the ground.

I have tried docking at different landing pads, including the once specified by icon which changes each time entering station area, and also at the pad closest to the item. Nothing generated the guide line.
Also, the item itself pops out of existence if you're not standing close enough to it. Broken quest/game.
Haha, yeah, I know it is so upsetting. We all know what is happening and they have not been able to fix this.
By the way, if the object is in the middle pads, you will never be able to get the guide line to show up, cus you would need a LARGE ship to land on the LARGE landing pad that it is "on".
I was unlucky to have this happen to me once as well, it through me for a loop for about 20 minutes even though I knew the work around to fix it.
So upsetting.
Ok... where is it bud? In the sewer ditch? Of course I should have known to look there, it's where I keep all my important items.
Very short story:
I picked up the quest item and followed the quest line to the point you have to sacrifice a ship. So I went back to the wharf and bought a ship and saw you can use crew to give orders so I was like cool I'll have this dude follow me in the new ship and he can come on my ship while i send the new ship to its doom with the 3 antimatter things i bought.
Leaving the station I see that ship undock and follow me, sweet! Then as I go a little farther away I F3 to his view and see him derping around running into the outside of the station. Ok, that's a bug but not too annoying.
THEN, when i switch back to my view of my ship I get this beauty:

Seriously WTF, a gas miner has clipped me inside of it, and I cannot get out, so it drags me along with it until it enters warp gate. This is totally bogus. Why do I fall for this early access BS. This game is in BETA.
The base game has issues with clipping when you are not there to render ships. Maybe you could have unclipped if you changed view back to your follower, maybe not. That aside, a lot can go wrong in this game due to the scope. Save frequent, save often, and keep many backup saves
oh haha, I see. Well hopefully now that you have the bad and ugly, you can now see the good stuff
