MSAA Option.
Hello! My card is 1060 (3Gb). I love the game but FXAA is bad, and MSAA is not available.
How can I enable MSAA option? Maybe manually in confing.xml?
It is "<antialiasing>fxaa_high</antialiasing>" right now. What's the command for MSAA x2 or x4?
And yes, I'm ready to sacrifice some FPS for a better picture.
Thank you in advance.

Better sacrifice some money for VRAM. The moment teh game goes in swing (not full swing mind you) FPS drops like from a cliff!!!
I'm running in 1660Ti with 6GB and it gets glitchy....

I have the RTX 1080, along with 16GB of ram, and it's still glitchy for me. On full-screen that is, try switching to Borderless Windowed. There are also some FPS guides out there, but I forget the url...

I would recommend trying FXAA on high and using nvidia freestyle to apply sharpening (and colour) rather than using MSAA. It looks surprisingly good.

You can't just turn something magically on that isn't implemented.

There is an MSAA option in the game. But it is disabled for cards with VRAM lower then 6Gb. So it is implemented. The question is how to enable it.

If your card only has 3GB RAM and the required is minimum 6GB RAM... then shouldn't the answer to your question be... use a card with at least 6GB RAM? You are trying to enable something they specifically disabled if you don't meet the minimum specs.

Exactly. I just want to know what command to put in config.xml to the line "<antialiasing> </antialiasing>" for MSAA x2 or x4, and to see what happens. I can't get a new card right now.

I use MSAA. I have a 2070 Super which has 8gb vram. It just shows up in the options for me.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

This sounds stupid. You shouldn't judge others by yourself.

Same on my RIG - Different Game-Platform, but I moved over to use ReShade, to apply some Antialiasing-Methods against the ones implemented ingame.

Now I got Adaptive AA (TAA), SMAA as well as a lil bit FXAA (32x) running and get in Space roundabout 90 - 180fps, but for example in the tutorial "Flight", at the very beginning in the room, I got 70fps only.

Depending on grafic-settings of cause.

I could share the ReShade.ini as well as the settings that I play with, if it's wished.

Intel Core i7 6700k
16Gb RAM
nVidia GTX 1060 6Gb OC

After all adjustments, the Antialiasingoption of the game are off and all what I want is enabled and adjusted by ReShade.

It's so strange, if a Game like DOOM (2016) runs today at 170fps straight like it's nothing at High and Nightmare settings... but other games aren't programmed that well, so performance is way more bad.

DOOM is a corridor shooter with pre-built levels and hand-crafted enemy AI placements with state-based AI that runs on scripts. It is 100% scripted game play. X4 is attempting to simulate a real economy across multiple sectors with multiple ships from multiple factions and with ships and stations that have multiple drones and multiple turrets and on and on and on. Comparing those two isn't even remotely fair. X4 processes more data in one hour than DOOM does in the entire campaign. DOOM is not actively updating the map. DOOM does not allow you to build complex stations and connect them any way you want to. DOOM is 100% static. You cannot destroy the environment. You cannot do anything the designers did not intend you to do. In X4 you can bring the engine to its knees by creating a massive empire spanning tens of systems with hundreds of ships.

Do you not see the flaw in your reasoning?

X4 is far more than graphical candy.
