Change save file location
Anyone know how to move my save files from one drive to another? For some reason my saves are not on my primary SSD drive, and I'm pretty sure that's why saving and loading games takes so long. Haven't been able to find any info on this yet.

Thx

You can try using symbolic link or folder redirection to move the files to a different drive. The files should appear to X4 to be in the same place they are currently but the underlying data is stored somewhere else such as on another drive.

on my computer saves are in Documents/Egosoft/X4/61618995/save

Saving only takes about 10 seconds for me. How long is it taking for you?

As for loading, I believe they are doing the method that pre-loads much of the art assets so there are no load-screens in the game.

DrSuperGood's answer is probably the best, since symbolic links are transparent to Windows. The only other option is to move your Documents folder to your SSD, via typical Windows methods.

Change Save File Folder Location
I'd like to move my save files to my faster SSD drive, but cannot find any way to do this. Can someone please help?

Thanks

I need to change the save location, a symbolic link will not work for me.
My document folder is mapped to a server with offline files enabled.

Saving and loading can take as long as 5 mins and it is driving me crazy. Especially now that the game has gotten harder.

please tell me what file needs to be edited to change the %username%\documents\egosoft folder location or give us an option to do so in-game.

thank you

PS. Very cool game. I am looking forward to seeing all your hard work in the next version.

If you want save games load/save from SSD while your Documents folder is located on HDD, this will work :
1) Create new folder on SSD drive like "F:\Games\X4Save"
2) Find Egosoft save folder (for me it is "D:\Documents\WinDocuments\Egosoft\X4\47864288\save")
3) Move all files from Egosoft save folder to the new folder you created
4) Delete Egosoft save folder
5) Execute this command with Administrator rights (run cmd.exe as an Administrator) :
mklink /D "D:\Documents\WinDocuments\Egosoft\X4\47864288\save" "F:\Games\X4Save"

(put your folder names in the string !)
Now In the Egosoft\X4\...\ folder you must find "save" folder marked as link (with small black arrow in the corner). You can run X4 and load as usual.
But, the loading time is the same for me :-(
So there is no need to do this, but you can try.
