How do you build this "HQ" ?
I see here and there people talking about an "HQ" where you can research stuff etc but I've never seen anything related to this. How does it works ?

You don’t build it, you complete the short story mission to unlock it.

If you’ve spent any time scanning stations a Boron scientist should have contacted you, do their quest line to get the HQ.

If you haven’t scanned any stations, take some time to do so and the Boron will contact you.

On every new game start, the first thing I do is look for a radio emission on the station I started at. This will be the start of the Experiment Quest which will lead to the discovery of the PHQ.

It's the only story based mission in the game. It's easy and the end result is more than worth it as the PHQ is where you get your research done.
I make sure this is the first thing I do at the start of every game.
Why? Because Teleportation is a must have tech ;)

It doesn't matter if you missed it at the beginning. You may already have the missions for the HQ quest. check your mission manager, from the map screen, and (you may need to use the tabs to select the appropriate type of mission) see if you have the missions from the Boron. A fair warning, I've played through these missions twice and I still get stuck and need to come here to find guidance for why the mission is stuck. It's usually something easy, but still frustrating.

If you don't have the Boron mission thread then just SHIFT-F2 near any station and slowly (under 50m/s) fly along close to the station listening for a 'static' sound. When you hear one, lift away from the station 20 m or so then turn and inspect the station. You are looking for a little orange ball of light with some sparks flying out of it. Sometimes it will be imbeded in the hull or behind a girder but as long as you can get within 5m or so of it you'll either see a message in the lower right (possibly from the boron, but could be anyone wanting your help) OR a decoding message in the lower left of the screen which can give trade discounts, blueprints, and some other stuff.

Even if you don't want the PHQ, you should probably at least follow the missions until you can research teleportation and the other enhancements that will help your game along.

Cheers!

OK people... How many of you know that at the end of protecting the decoy the Boron is using you get a bonus Frigate, depended on the space you picked the signal (and you protect the decoy) it's a Cerberus for Argon/ANT/HUT space, an Osprey for Teladi/MIN/SCA space and a Gorgon for Paranid/HOL space.
Not sure what's happening when you scan a Xenon or Khaak station and you get the mission there :steamhappy:!!!

It is a hard nut to crack at some times, but eventually you get killed by 1 or hundred Xenons... LOL, but, as far as I know, not seen any radio emission there, and I helped kill of so many of them stations..... Maybe the Boron are also at war with Xenon, would be logical...

The Frigate is tied to your game start.

You could go for the Teladi start trigger the HQ plot in Argon Space and still get a Osprey and not a Cerberus.

Hasn't happened to me yet. It is tied to the place, since every time I do it in Argo space it is a Colosus, in Teladi an Osprey and in Par a Gorgon (more than 7 starts).
Maybe this was happening in V2.60? I'm playing the Beta

Then test it again If you start as Argon chance is high you trigger the HQ part in Argon space so it will turn out to be a Cerberus but not because you did trigger it in Argon Space but because you did go for the Argon Start.

Same goes for Teladi and Paranid of course.

My latest example was the basic Argon Start just for fun i did fly to Grand exchange did pick a station to trigger the HQ plot and later on i did get a Cerberus Sentinel and not a Osprey as you would suggest.

This behavior has not changed since 1.0 up to the current 3.0b to my knowledge.
