Miners - Vanguard vs Sentinel
Has anyone done the math to figure out which is better for a mining ship? Sentinel with it's slightly bigger holds or vanguard which is slightly faster? I would imagine the difference is miniscule but it would be nice to be buying the proper ships (even if it is a minscule difference).

Oh, and for M class mineral miners, can they get along fine with just a single mining gun and 2 weapon turrets or does it need a mining gun and 2 mining turrets? TY

Antigone Sentinel ships are usually better than their Argon counterparts. Same with Ministry of Finance ships over regular Teladi. I don't fly Paranid ships, just use their engines so I don't know how they compare to one another.

I usually fit my ships I buy with Paranid engines, Teladi shields, and Argon weapons (Although the weapons are the same from any faction you have standing to buy the good stuff with)

most weapons do have a faction specific variant and some weapons are faction only.

And as for the OP I do believe automining still works without a mining weapon, but I mostly just put one drill on my M Solid miners and the turrets are weapons for the case they do get attacked.

all sentinel ships variants have a larger cargohold regardles of faction.

I do prefer my Paranid Plutus Sentinels for mining as they are speedy and have adequate cargoholds.

@Mrwissan Paranid Combat Engines are pretty much the best you can get imho for all around it is also either Paranid or Argon imho.

Shields Tleadi or Paranid no room for inbetween Argon shields it is either high cap or fast regen plus paranid shields have the lowest drain for boost so yeah nuff said :)

ty all for the replies. To clarify I'm curious if there's any real difference in earnings if you build your mining fleet using sentinel variants or vanguard. The sentinels all have larger carrying capacities but are slightly slower while the vanguards are slightly faster and more manouvourable while having slightly smaller carrying capacity. So a sentinel would carry more goods to market while taking a little bit longer to get there while a vanguard would carry less goods while getting there faster. The choice of which faction I leave up to everyones preferences on looks (paranid ships are ugly lol).

Depends on how long your trips are and how optimal you want to be. There's probably some way to calculate the distance and figure out the better for the job, but I'm not mathemagician so I can't help you there. My gut feeling tells me that the larger/slower is better for longer distances to move more product per trip and the faster/smaller one is better for short hops where you move small amounts of cargo quickly and want more frequency.

Any idea where else Ministry shipyards can spawn other than eighteen bil? My pesent play seems to have left the one in eighteen bil missing. And I do not really wish to start all over again...😫

they are static just might take a bit until it shows up but in 4 different game starts i got all warf and yards in the same system at the same location.

Yet i had a delay of an hour or so for the Ali warf on my Teladi start.

P.S. i prefer the sentinel paranid miner as they are a lot faster for automining autside the same system this is importend.
And maybe Teladi sentinel miner for a static sector miner and personal use only but still Paranid best imho.

So you mean they do not show up front when the game starts and come in later?

What an odd measure, it sure kills the pining on big ships when you do not have the $$.

Thanks on the paranid tip, I will look into it tonight, thinking might get a fleet of 3 to 4 automining 130ish~140k every 5 to 10mins of ore trade around teladi space, since I am pining for their phoenix.

Loved the Teladi Carrier in X² was an amazing base for miners and fighters alike.
my personal taxi for captured ships.

Yet with X³ it did fall out of favor with me i am to mcuh a speed freak for my personal ships so it was Split all the way as i can't stand the OTAS and Aldrin ships. :)

Hell yes Split all the way, Though while I was playing with XRM I fell in love with the terran ships in that mod anyway :D

Same here X3 A Split Python mobile base lover(oddly in ED it is also Python). Phoenix only came next for economical reasons.

For operation command I had a combo paranid hyperion(cap) and teladi kestral for speedier options...

I am actually disappointed when split got cut in rebirth not that it was entirely present to begin with...

But given X4 storyline and seeing they had yet to return... my best bet us phoenix also for economical reasons, plus I like they make a more "rounded" change for teladi designs(it does habe the big disadvantage of a bulbous target though...)

Indeed at least i did crew all my Combat vessels in Rebirth with Split.
Took ages to scrounge all the Jobs together tho Split Crew was pretty limited.

Split Destroyer design was so ludicrus having all your side mounts capable to fire dead center front aswell. :split:

The 18 Billion shipyards are always there, if you haven't discovered them, you won't see them, until you've done that step of your 'storyline quest'.
