Torpedoes sound to be OP though from what I have read.
And on my capital ships, there isn't even an option to set them to shoot missiles...
From what I understand Cap Ship turrets are still bugged and useless. My Destroyer class and below turrets work fine. The AI is far more accurate with Beam Weapon Turrets since they don't have to lead the missiles or targets.
Buy Argon Fighter Bombers and damn the Torpedoes!!!
depends on the weapon type the turret is given, for example pulse or shard aren't much use, because one is too weak and the other is far too short range, and even if the missile is taken down, the collatoral explosive effect will attack the shields pretty heavily.
Beams are still the best option for taking out missiles. having seen turrets in action on corvettes, it would be the same on larger ships: they are still not accurate enough to be helpful. i certaintly wouldn't risk the security of a destroyer or a carrier on inaccurate weapons, especially with major ordinance.
if nothing else to prevent spamming of countermeasures, put a 20 second cooldown between uses and increase the time the countermeasures last for a few seconds. that still leaves a dozen seconds in between where turrets are useful.
Afterwards, increase the countermeasure limit based on ship size;
smaller fighters get 10
corvettes get 20
smaller freighters get 15
large freighters get 30
destroyers get 60
carriers get 80
adds an extra layer of defensive options and increases the tactical compnent of each fight so missiles aren't such a deciding factor.
Or take a few ships to spread the damage, get them started in the fight, and then sneak in to take out the turrets. One can get two or three before the AI changes target.
yeah usually I have my carrier is the background handling defence drones or fighters while I handle dealing with the target personally.. I find sending fighters in to soften it up just costs you money due to missile spam..
I prefer to fly Nemesis corvette with 5 hardpoints. 1 of which is heavy heatseeker missile.
So the tactic is to park your ship right behind the enemy capship. Only on 2 ships i saw a missile turret facing back of the ship. Surely you can kill one turret even while facetanking missiles. At least on a corvette that is.
Then you just target tracking missile turrets with a Home button, aim to the side, above or below the ship (depending on turret location) and fire a missile. It's agile enough to hit turrets anywhere behind corners. That was you can remove ALL turrets from the enemy ship without even looking at them once.
Yep. Fighters are toast against missiles. One needs a carrier to draw the major fire while you do the finesse work.
