What do you do against missile spamming?
I really wanted to like the game, but the fact that all AI capital ships that I saw so far are equipped almost exclusively with tracking missiles only, is terribly frustrating. They just keeps spamming tracking missiles at you or your ships, and there is nothing you can do about it. Very little chance to dodge it, can't shoot them, turrets don't even react to them most of the time, and when they do, they just shoot at the rocket but don't destroy them. Even a corvette has only 2 chaff or what, but what is that worth when at least 2-3 turrets are firing missiles non-stop?
There is no point sending fighters or corvettes against capital ships, because you inevitably lose several of them.
I have the feeling about my capital ships too. I had a Paranid destroyer with the best equipment, it was attacked by an AI ships of the same type, but it had only missile launchers, it took my ship apart before it could even turn toward the enemy. This is just boring. Both visually and gameplay-wise unimpressive compared to what capital ship fights looked like in Rebirth.

I am at a point when I have plenty of money and wanted to try building a fleet and do combat, but it just feels pointless like this.

I think that is the idea of it.

Torpedoes sound to be OP though from what I have read.

You can set turrets to fire at incoming missiles too. Do they shoot down torps?

I tried setting them to fire at missiles, but so far I only saw them even react to them on one occasion, and even then they couldn't destroy the missile. Other times they either didn't do anything, or remained grayed out.

And on my capital ships, there isn't even an option to set them to shoot missiles...

From what I understand Cap Ship turrets are still bugged and useless. My Destroyer class and below turrets work fine. The AI is far more accurate with Beam Weapon Turrets since they don't have to lead the missiles or targets.

Buy Argon Fighter Bombers and damn the Torpedoes!!!

depends on the weapon type the turret is given, for example pulse or shard aren't much use, because one is too weak and the other is far too short range, and even if the missile is taken down, the collatoral explosive effect will attack the shields pretty heavily.

Beams are still the best option for taking out missiles. having seen turrets in action on corvettes, it would be the same on larger ships: they are still not accurate enough to be helpful. i certaintly wouldn't risk the security of a destroyer or a carrier on inaccurate weapons, especially with major ordinance.

Missiles seem far to hard to take out, turrets are useless and I don't think I've ever been able to shoot one down when trying, I used to do it all the time in X3 just fine. If they want to limit the countermeasures available on ships then we should at least be able to shoot them instead of having to boost off and wait for them to self destruct.

if nothing else to prevent spamming of countermeasures, put a 20 second cooldown between uses and increase the time the countermeasures last for a few seconds. that still leaves a dozen seconds in between where turrets are useful.

Afterwards, increase the countermeasure limit based on ship size;
smaller fighters get 10
corvettes get 20
smaller freighters get 15
large freighters get 30
destroyers get 60
carriers get 80

adds an extra layer of defensive options and increases the tactical compnent of each fight so missiles aren't such a deciding factor.

I just ran into this with my destroyer. The beam turrets were shooting at the missiles but werent destroying them and the ai ship was spamming missiles. I was dead in 15-20 seconds.

Best thing to do is get a fighter or frigate get close to them before inciting combat and choose the tracking turrets first then launch torps or missiles at them you gotta be quick though when you are doing your attack runs you gotta hit and run.. hit and run.. torps are the best for taking down multiple turrets at once but run the risk of destroying the target if you are trying to cap them if that's the case use heavy missiles and DO NOT forget the frigates that accompany caps as escorts most of the time they are exclusively loaded out with missiles and torps... best thing do to there is dodge and weave.. and stay behind them... and torp them too if you got enough and if you get with in 100m of them. hope this helps this is the tactics I been using for capping them and making money provided it takes skill and a lot of saves

yeah usually I have my carrier is the background handling defence drones or fighters while I handle dealing with the target personally.. I find sending fighters in to soften it up just costs you money due to missile spam..

In fleet fights missiles are a problem. You end up losing ships most of the time if missiles involved. But solo against cap ships it's very easy to destroy all turrets without any danger to you.

I prefer to fly Nemesis corvette with 5 hardpoints. 1 of which is heavy heatseeker missile.

So the tactic is to park your ship right behind the enemy capship. Only on 2 ships i saw a missile turret facing back of the ship. Surely you can kill one turret even while facetanking missiles. At least on a corvette that is.

Then you just target tracking missile turrets with a Home button, aim to the side, above or below the ship (depending on turret location) and fire a missile. It's agile enough to hit turrets anywhere behind corners. That was you can remove ALL turrets from the enemy ship without even looking at them once.

Yep. Fighters are toast against missiles. One needs a carrier to draw the major fire while you do the finesse work.
