Stuck in asteroid fix
1. Set throttle to some value
2. Go to external view on a station within your sector and decently far from your ship
3. Wait for a bit.
4. Go back to your ship cockpit view.
5. Fixed

This works b/c while you are in external view 100km or so from your ship the game doesn't recognize the asteroids near your ship and therefore does not collision test against them. So when you go back to your ship you will have flown through the asteroid and will be free to move again.

Huh... I never thought to try that. It's only happened twice to me, I just saved and reloaded.

I've had some experience in developing graphics engines in the 'gaming' industry so I figured the game was not collision testing against these things in map view or in views that were away from your ship...as in out of render distance or the game would quite literally become a slideshow. In other words if a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, it didn't happen.

If you notice if you stand on the bridge of your miners they run into more asteroid than they mine. Medium ships will take damage. But all of my miners are mining outside of my view and they never take damage yet I know they are running into asteroids. So while the game might 'know' about the asteroids' location it does not perform collision testing unless they are near the player.

The only place the world needs to look and act semi-realistic is near the player. Beyond that you can fake it with data.

Very useful tip. Thanks for sharing that plus the logic of it. Still needing it in v1.6...

You can also teleport to another ship and let the stuck ship go out of sector/low attention in which case it flies out no problem.

Or one can just order the co pilot to fly it out, since they ignore collision.

Good find. Sounds like it should work. Taking the same logic I tried what DrSuperGood did, but for me they were still stuck. What did work was saving and reloading while in another sector. Might be related to having been in the sector recently.

If you have unlocked the ability, you can also just teleport to another sector. That is providing you are not the sole pilot. AI pilots will get themselves out of those situations usually within a minute or less if you decided to stay with a ship with an Uber driver.

Seriously? Is there noone who ever tried to shoot it? Everytime I get stuck, I shoot it to pieces and I'm done ... Or how about getting out the way you got in? Just move backwards until you hit the backside of the astroid and then use the maximum distance in the astroid for boosting right through the wall.

I prefer the shooting solution.

Thank you for the tip, I was about to load some far away save.

Either viewing far away or letting the AI pilot seems to work well for that. I let my pilot do it because... why not. She smashes through everything else in the world, why not an asteroid too. Riding in the cockpit with the NPC flying makes “Asian woman driving” look like perfection in contrast. Good lord the station docking sequence is so so so bad.

Eh I just put it on autopilot and it always gets me out.

Awesome, thanks! This worked. I stopped on the inside of a jump gate (yeah I know, like people stopping at the end of an escalator) and a huge freighter rammed me from behind and I got stuck in it. External view to a nearby station, then back into cockpit worked!

I always waited for my shields to get full, move to the farthest edge inside the asteroid I could, then use the boost on the opposite side and it pushes me through.

Thanks! Works like a charm.

Thanks for the tip about grafix engines, I just left the seat and told the AI pilot "fly to" in map mode and waited 'til he was out.

saved me, thanks!!!
