Tractor beam woes...
Thing needs to be renamed to 'Backfiring slingshot of loot hurling'

Why does it insist on throwing some of the loot items I try to suck in half way across the zone. Generally behind me but often in random directions.

Utterly stupid concept.

Bug ?
'Working as intended' ?
My fault ?

Any tips to making it actually draw loot into my inventory and not tossing it off into oblivion ? I am chasing this stuff around like a loon.

Are you activating the tractor beam while moving? Because when activated it starts the containers moving towards your current location upon activation. If your ship is moving, the containers will be moving to where you used to be.

Not alot no. Primarily it's mining crstals so I am sucking them in after mining which leaves me fairly still. Certainly not while flying around. THe distances involved are totally out of proportion to any movement I may be doing. I see your point but in this instance it's not the case.

Yes, it's the 'oh my, I was travelling at 4 m/s!' problem, and then you have to move 10 km to try to collect it again.

Known thing then?

I have tried holding the tractor button and just tapping it but short or long it still launches stuff around the zone.

when the container magnet (there is no tractor beam) flings stuff through a system it usually means that the related object ended up in an invalid position upon activation.

means.. be it 10km or 360km away from you is just a random position (plus unknown latency) were the object can not clip into other objects, get obstructed with anythings geometry or get stuck inside an asteroid.

Latency? In a single player game.

latency in terms of GPU / CPU ticks

You sound like you know what you are talking about.

I have no idea.

Quite simply it is a garbage concept that really could use some improvement. It just straight up misses your ship and goes for a little journey all on it's own.

Maybe for the sake of tractor beaming they need to greatly increase the radius around the ship that stuff is actually picked up. Like every valid target within 500m gets sucked in automatically instead of having to get it actually inside the structure of whatever ship you are in. I have to hoover up stuff 5m away and then chase it 12km to try again.

I am just leaving hundreds of thousands in crystals floating in space because it is too tedious to go after them.
