Joystick configuration / Mouse or other axis magically moving
New profiles
We are adding more custom joystick profiles to choose from to the game. Check the "load profiles" section to test if a profile is suited for you or use it as a basis for your own changes.

Joystick / Input issues

If you have problems with a joystick make sure you are not using the default joystick profile but one of the other specific ones. The profile is currently broken.

Mouse cursor moves by itself

On some HOTAS systems the mouse cursor may be moving by itself making it hard to fix the incorrect input settings. This is because an axis of an input device is already incorrectly mapped to the emulated mouse cursor. Try changing your HOTAS or Joystick throttle to get it to stand still then change the configuration in settings (especially the device mapping!)

Input mapping info

For details about how to change mappings please try out the joystick / mapping tutoriasl!

HOTAS / Stick / Warthog default profiles

Before configuring yourself we suggest you first load the best matching default profile for your setup. This just requires the devices to be mapped to the same slots in the device mapping for them to work. (see tutorial for more info on that)

If joystick input feels "digital", as if there is not enough deadzone

Please make sure you mapped the axis in the "Steering: Analog" section of the controls settings.
Every axis can be mapped digital OR analog!

The only issue, and it is just an annoying one, is that whatever I assign to use the left/right joystick movement seems to have a large deadzone applied. Have attempted to change the deadzone with no joy. Does not matter what I assign to that single joystick axis and I get the large deadzone. Works fine with other flight sims and such. Using a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS setup.

Also, just purchased a ship with torpedo launchers. I cann't seem to get the torps to launch when I am flying it. According to the setup it on my stick it says "button 2". Does not work. Also, it says that "L" should launch. That too does not work.

I have the Saitek X52 Pro and assigning an axis to the roll result in the ship rolling while twisting that axis, but once you let go of the joystick, the ship returns to a fixed plane. This is not the case when I use the Q and E buttons. Does anyone have a solution or are the bindings just a freaken mess which make it impossible to play this game. I also have problems with the mouse cursor buggering around, the left mousebutton only working when double clicking. I wasted too much time to just try and be able to fly my ship. If I cannot get these basic things working with my hardware, then I will demand a refund!!!!

PS, the tutorial is so basic that it sucks!

Anyone tried dual joysticks with X4?

Having problems myself trying to map 2nd joy to control throttle. As soon as i use both joystick at the same time throttle resets to zero, until i move throttle controls on 2nd joy again...

No matter if i use analog or digital to control throttle, it always resets ><
Anyone tried Dual T16000s ?

Just a suggestion Egosoft, you guys really should play Elite Dangerous and model your joystick stuff after what they did. Seriously...

You know, I opened up X Rebirth after a good while, probably will play that while I await the fix for the diabolical mouse movement bug. I configured x-R roughly the same as I did in X4. Now, I understand X4 is likely a different engine (brand new or upgraded from x-Rebirth perhaps?) and X-Rebirth is a more mature game, but perhaps some clues may be found in the code of that game to fix this bug? It's honestly all that's keeping me from playing at this point. On the bright side, I haven't finished X-R yet.:steamhappy:

Anyone got a decent T-Flight HOTAS X setup? Tried a couple that weren't great, or... downright unusable, tried setting one up myself and it was even worse, cant even seem to use a modifier on it. e.g, 8+POV for multiple inputs.

I have one that works for me for the most part. Unfortunately I had to install AutoHotKey and create a script in order to use the 8-way Hat switch for diagonal strafing (why the game doesn't understand this inherently is beyond me). I can link the profile and AutoHotKey script for you when I get home.

Not a problem. You only need AutoHotKey if you want to use the HAT switch to strafe. If not then you can just reassign the strafe keys to something else and you won't need AutoHotKey at all.

Here is the link.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/s1wheipefoevkex/TFlight_HOTAS_X.zip

Just put the files in your "C:\Users\username\Documents\Egosoft\X4\33957432" folder and then load the "T.Flight Hotas X + AutoHotKey" control profile in the game. If you need to strafe using the HAT switch then install AutoHotKey and then right click on the "FixDiagonalStrafe.ahk" file and select Run Script. As long as this script is running you will be able to strafe in all 8 directions in the game. If you don't need to strafe using the HAT switch then you can just remap the strafing controls to whatever you like and you don't need AutoHotKey or the script.

Yeh, something like autohotkey is good for this - personally I use my preferred (old, stable) version of saitek's sst joystick software for this, and 8 way hat strafe and full hat headlook both work just the same as in ED:

Hat Strafe Mode: For 8 way hat strafe, I have bound the hat directions to w, w+e, d, s, a+s, a, and w+a respectively. Record the keys or set delays in those combos or it might not work.

Hat Look Mode: For hat headlook I have my hat set to mouse with a sensitivity of 50% and mouselook enabled. Works the same as in flight sims, ED etc. I have a nearby button bound to mouselook/recentre.

For swapping mouse buttons around and firing with mouse 2, well it's not my cup of tea but i thought I'd try - got it working by grabbing the program 'x button mouse control', but I have a multibutton mouse so ymmv. Install and run it, right click the tray icon and chooss setup, set right click to send mouse button 5, set mouse button 5 to send right click, start x4 > controls > bind primary fire and right click (it will say the other button when you do obviously) save profile and play. Right mouse fires primary weapon, other mouse button of your choice (mouse 5 in my case) opens context/target menus.

I don't use autohotkey but the principle is the same.

Very cool thanks. Why the game itself doesn't understand the 4 diagonal directions on the HAT switch boggles my mind. This is a basic control bug that should never have made it beyond first-pass QA and now it appears Egosoft will never fix it. I can't even get them to acknowledge it exists.

Wait, wait, wait a minute. So unless I'm clearly misreading this, the first few posts of this thread (as far as I can tell) tell me to use the default Thrustmaster (Hotas) binding, even if it's broken, in order to...fix it? I'm confused.

Right now, I've got another post in the technical help section asking for help in FIXING my oystick so I can actually do something OTHER then spin in a circle. I've spent nearly an hour and a half trying to fix this, and I'm getting nowhere fast, and I'd rather LIKE to actually make this purchase worth the time/money!

Thanks!
